BISD BONDS WILL DEPEND ON WHAT VOTERS DECIDE NOV. 4

Advocates of the bond issue say the repairs to the schools and new improvements are necessary to maintain safe, learning-inducing environments for current students and the next generations of classes of Brownsville Independent School District to come. And they say the new performing arts center will place the district on an even level with neighboring districts. If your home is appraised below $140,00, you will not pay additional taxes. However, if it is appraised above $140,000 it will result in additional taxes depending on how high it is appraised.

Opponents say the local property tax burden is already too high and that the district should target top administrators who they say are grossly overpaid. They say the district should address waste and mismanagement of district assets before burdening the taxpayer with even more debt. They say the district should become more competitive to stop the hemorrhaging of students to local charter schools which costs the district in attendance payments from the state. Additionally, they say that the Cameron County Appraisal District continues to over value district properties making the $140,000 exemption meaningless.

By the numbers:

To borrow $450 Million
At 6 percent for 30 years

Monthly payment
$ 2,697,997.33

Total interest
$ 521,271,850.75

Total to be paid thru 2056
$ 971,271,851.00

The decision on whether to encumber local taxpayers with this 30-year obligation will be decided by district voters in the November 4 election.

The lack of TWO LOVING PARENTS is why kids are not making the grade...MONEY WON’T FIX THE PROBLEM. Oh, and one or both of the parents have A FUCKING JOB! Kids who live in a DYSFUNCTIONAL WELFARE household are more than likely going to do poorly in school. This describes 75% of the homes in the Rio Grande Delta.

Too bad, not voting for this. Board members will just take some of this money and give themselves hefty raises. Just ask el joto Joey (a grown man?? "Joey"?) Lopez how it's done. He's done that all of his pitiful life.

I’m a NO for this. The birth rates are declining, there’s nothing they can do about that. This is more of a band-aid for the district but we all know the inevitable is going to happen, schools are going to have to close. Neighborhoods have declined as people have moved north. This will eventually come back to the tax payer costing more for a school they will probably polish up with this plan and eventually close down in 5 years, another classic case of BISD money mismanagement. The question they continue to avoid is “how much will this cost the tax payer?” They don’t know and don’t wanna know. Also, I can’t imagine giving the “okay” for this amount money with Elizondo and Peña being responsible for it, HELL NO!!!! Go fight the real battle and move that LF school district tax line. It’s ridiculous to know if you live on the North Side of Alton Gloor you don’t go to Burns or Vela and get shipped out to school 20 minutes away! Just Say NO to the bond and to drugs!!!

Republicans are in charge in Texas. Low paying jobs, moms have to work two jobs. Dads earn little money. Stress is high, poor children.

VOTE NO AGAINST ANY BISD BONDS! Let’s start saving money by not paying for Mexican kids from matamoros to go to school in Brownsville.

The rise in property taxes has reached its limit. Local taxpayers have a finite capacity to bear these costs. If BISD genuinely requires additional funds, it should consider reducing the substantial salaries of senior administrators, eliminating unnecessary expenditures, and initiating the sale of unused properties to UTB. Allocating further resources to a failing initiative (students) is illogical.

To the individual stating falsely that because Republicans are in charge our economy is in deprived shape . Please study the salaries of our town and county administrators a noteworthy majority are in the $100, 000 bracket . All paid by local taxpayers . Is this really a bad economy ? Restaurants and bars consistently complete of customers . This in my view is not a deprived economy but a augmenting one . Cease with your lies .
