This week City Management cowed to the City Of Brownsville police union when they demanded their share of the end-of-year stipends for Non-Civil Employees, who were set to receive $2,500.
This follows weeks after cost-of-living adjustments were not issued for fiscal year 2026 after commissioner Nurith Galonsky railroaded the modest property tax increase that would have helped raise salaries for non-civil employees.
She claimed it was because she ran on a non new taxes policy but as most know, preventing the tax increase disproportionately benefits her and her family as some of largest property owners in Brownsville.
Then the rest of the commission brown-nosed her “bravery” for sticking up for the little guys. Commission Galonsky is also up to her old tricks of requesting favors for her friends, in particularly Ana O'quin, whose new McDonald’s on Alton Gloor and Paredes was allowed to plant less than the minimum amount of trees after complaining directly to Galonsky.
No one expects a purveyor of diabetes to care about the health and wellness of the community and environment, but everyone else has to follow the landscape code and so should she.

I completely believe that everyone should follow the landscape rules without any exceptions. I disagree with your statement regarding small increases in property taxes. Property owners have been facing yearly increases in their property taxes and I can guarantee that these increases are significant. The issue is that all city and county leaders do not want to work efficiently. Taxpayers should ask for an audit by DOGE to check and confirm that taxpayer money is being spent wisely and openly especially in this area known for corruption.
Well, what did you all expect from this lady? She's screwed us before, and she will keep on screwing us as long as you keep voting her in.
Good job Ms. Galonsky.
That totals 136-7
Donna should drop football.
So this landscape law bullshit wouldn't have come up had she agreed to the tax increase?
You got me there.
Don't forget that she literally got fucked by El Paya.
I call bull shit….you are all over “it’s too hard to get permits” , “it’s too slow”….make it easier for business owners! You can’t select to be FOR BUSINESS and smooth processes, then change your position because it’s someone you don’t like. I call bullshit. What’s the problem? Nurith? Successful females? Or just looking for something to complain about?
What kind of plants do they want? Native? Stuff found in Texas? Drought resistant? Is is cost effective?
They just love attacking winners
Honestly, we as citizens continue to ask for more paved roads, more drainage, more light synchronization, or more activities. I don’t like taxes but I do understand in order to do “more” we need money. Money doesn’t grow on trees. I’ll admit the city of Brownsville really hasn’t gone up in terms of taxes relative to the county or the BISD. I would have been fine with the small increase to do “more”. I believe from what I saw on the city meeting it was going to be an increase of roughly $35 for the year. I think Nurith’s position as one of the largest land owner’s in the city and not wanting to increase the tax and give those deserving employees their bonus has to do with her not wanting to pay the taxes on all their properties.
So if I question the city- this is what I can expect? A cowardly anonymous letter to a blogger???? Way to go COB
How did the commission vote?
Exactly - city manager has a leak and no control . She needs to get control of her team .
