IS THIS ANY WAY TO TREAT OUR FRIENDS?

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

An Afghan interpreter named Zia S., who had worked with U.S. troops and was seeking a green card, was arrested and issued an immediate deportation order in July 2025 after a routine biometrics appointment in Connecticut.

Federal immigration authorities claim he poses a national security risk, but his attorneys dispute this, stating he is at risk to his own life if deported to Afghanistan due to his past work with the U.S. military.

Another interpreter, Sayed Naser, also faces deportation after being detained at an asylum hearing in June 2025, with both cases highlighting concerns about the treatment of Afghan allies by U.S. immigration authorities.

Details of Zia S.'s case:

Background:
Zia S. assisted U.S. forces in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2009 and was paroled into the U.S. in October 2024 with his family after fleeing the Taliban in 2021.

Detention:
He was arrested in Connecticut in July 2025 after attending a required biometrics appointment for his green card application.

Allegations:
Prosecutors claim he is a national security risk, but no supporting evidence has been provided, according to his attorneys.

Opposition:

His attorneys and supporters, including Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, argue that deportation would put him in extreme danger from the Taliban.

There was a lot to say when Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan included the death of 13 soldiers. The war was still raging. Expelling Afghans that risked their lives and their families back to the Taliban, is a sure death sentence. Trump
will have blood on his hands and only himself to blame. Others will think twice knowing that Trump is notorious for reneging on his promises.
