Special to El Rrun-Rrun
Let’s support the BISD bond election this November 4.I am very proud to be a product of the BISD school system. I enjoyed attending our schools and supporting my children at school events when they attended school at BISD.
Now, with a bond issue this November with projects that have been recommended by our fellow district residents, we are not just voting YES for Propositions A and B in this November's bond election, we're empowering the citizens of Brownsville to take charge of our school district's future. We can ensure that the improvements and changes we need are guided by the community, for the community.
This bond proposal will ensure our schools are rebuilt, maintained, and provide the right environment for our children to learn, and we will be able to take control of our district, and not continue the top-down, business-as-usual practices that have guided us in the past. Now is our chance to wrest control from bureaucrats and return it where it belongs: in the hands of the people.
Our fellow district residents have determined that 45 district facilities are in desperate need of improvements and maintenance.
Many of BISD's schools are between 50-100 years old and need facility and infrastructure upgrades for basic operation such as air conditioning units.
Many of BISD's schools are between 50-100 years old and need facility and infrastructure upgrades for basic operation such as air conditioning units.
While previous elections have addressed growth with new schools, this election is to invest in what we already have. The District has done a good job at retiring most of its old bonded debt and has the capacity to finance new facilities through the voter approved bond election this November 4. And the way we've structured it, new taxation will be minimal.
In certain cases involving senior citizens, they will pay nothing at all.
Students perform better in newer and/or recently renovated buildings with proper air conditioning and heating systems. Our children deserve access to nice classrooms, no matter where they live. And it's in our hands to provide them this and keep control of the improvements every step along the way.
And if we are vigilant, we can demand that local preference on bidding for their construction be implemented so that our tax money will stay here.
Join me in voting for Proposition 1 and 2 on November 4.

Vote NO for Proposition 1 and 2. The district is currently undergoing an investigation by the FBI and TEA for alleged corruption. Also what happened to the millions donated to the school district by Elon Musk? If the district is in need of money why don't they sell those schools no longer in use to UTSA? Lastly, the school district needs to operate in a more efficient and cost saving way. Enough with the waste. Enough with the increase of our taxes. Kids graduating can't even write or read much less comprehend what they are reading.
This election is about taking control of BISD and making sure projects are funded and most importantly SUPERVISE BY US. There are people that dont want US to take control and are saying vote NO because they want their buddies to spend the money as they please.
The kids need TWO PARENTS with one that works a real job...more money won’t do a fucking thing!
๐๐, vote no.
Who sits on the board of the bank, ๐ฎ.. birds of a ๐ชถ. County commissioner (who)… ๐คญ๐ Then his daughter sits on BISD board (oh snap) that’s why she she’s bullshiting the stupid vote (your rent is not going up) the property owners will not raise rates. ๐ Uh YES THEY WILL.
(Check your response) people are saying no, because BISD can’t MANAGE SHIT
WHAT… FUCK YOU you fucking idiot. supervised by us. We are paying an outrages salary to a crew cut Super looking like gomer pile. Spare us with this shit. Your gonna get shit on all fucking day for that response.
๐ฏ agree, vote no
Not.
VOTE NO
VOTE. NO
The money is going to engineering firms like Daniela Lopez husband and to Redfish, Daniela’s Million Dollar recycling company. The money is NOT going to the KIDS or TEACHER SALERIES. NO NEW TAXES.
I'm sorry, but anyone that is "PROUD" of the fact that they are a product of the BISD is a moron. What is their slogan?..."The best choice.".....it should be "We will accommodate." All this district does is bow down to the human garbage that are giving birth to it's students. Whatever these unemployed losers want, the district gives them. You want your children to learn nothing and to associate with future criminals, then be my guest, send them to BISD.
BISD took millions from Musk a well known drug user
What happened to Say No To Drugs
Guess that went out the window
BISD will sell out to the highest offer with NO SHAME
Vote YES! They want to keep control of the money. We need to take it away from them. They want you to say NO! And they are making it look like it is wasting money, hiding the real FACT. The money is there; they need us to turn it down, so later they say, “Well, you said no to administering it.” Now we are the ones who decide who we hire, and any pet peeve project we want. DONT BE FOOLED!!! Vote YES!
Que cabrones!! Quieren que votemos NO para que ellos manejen la lana!!!
Absolutely VOTE NO!
I will be voting NO. BISD is a mismanaged mess! To many administrators who sit around doing nothing. BISD should be downsized, not expanded. BISD relies on students from matamoros to inflate their numbers. Thank God for Charter Schools.
Retired union teacher here. I can't believe they want us to vote no on this. With all the federal cuts, BISD is about to go down if we don't vote yes on these props. People here are right, they want to control the money and let our school district die. What a shame.
Let the people decide! Stakeholders want to manage the funds! VOTE YES!! Let us supervise the projects.
My kid goes to Hanna and he says the bathrooms need work. They asks us about input and we did. Hopefully they’ll pass the bond. Voting Yes
No more! Schools need help and we need to make sure things are done right. Montoya if the vote is for US to take control then I am in. Will be voting YES
Ya le pagaron a Montoya!!! Jejeje But ok you are right. I'm voting YES
Vote YES!!!
NO. Why are you supporting this? I was at the Superintendent's breakfast. He didn't answer 2 direct questions, they DONT give alternatives (probably because they don't have any). READ THE FINE PRINT, READ and inform yourself of alternative routes they could take. Question: WHY are they promoting this bond like a political issue? I saw a board member in that breakfast, and seen the same person in several mini meetings, but none of them ever discuss the sell of unused properties, the cutting of high administrative salaries (and if you don't like it you can always resign or move to another position). WHY is it that every time a direct question is asked about alternatives, it is always not answered? I am shocked to see that YOU of ALL PEOPLE would support something like this. I guess money is tight for all.
All these people are saying no; they should stop and think about what is wrong with them. BISD needs help, and we will supervise the money. So stop winning and start making sense
Orale! Voting SI!
Good. So now, the voters will get rid of the School Board and each school will be supervised and monitor by the neighborhood leaders. About time. Maria will cook breakfast. Lupita and Juan will guide students as they walk to school. All the neighborhood has to be outside the home to watch as the kids walk to school. Margie will check that all students get homework and it is completed.
Not enough has been done to show a good faith effort by the superintendent to reduce costs and realign the savings towards needs. This bond will be won by employees and at this time, employees are not too happy. The timing of raising employee contributions is not good. The self-funded insurance is not monitored by district. District could save 5 to 8 million dollars on insurance savings but no one is watching this runaway program. Bring the competition on health costs. Break up the control on having just one vendor. Since there are a lot less employees, the insurance should be less not more. Let the district work on cuts first and reduction of expenditures before bringing this bond to the voters. I will vote yes after I see the effort from BISD.
BISD doesn't clean the schools. There is dirt everywhere. Teachers have boxes and papers from 40 years ago. There is dust, crumbs and stuff all over our schools. We had a Career and Technical Education Center and BISD sold it to the City of Brownsville. BISD did not listen to the residents when they were told not to do that. Classrooms and schools are nice, they just need to be cleaned. Sell the closed down schools. Open BISD to the residents so that they can help the schools become better.
Secretaries, staff, principals, administrators they are all lazy. They just do evil things to parents and students and to each other.
The City of Brownsville has rules for historic buildings. You can not demolish Hanna, Palm Grove, El Jardin, Perez, Faulk,
BISD needs to be like Brownsville residents. They save and when they have the money they fix the rest room. Then they save again and they fix the kitchen. They save more and they fix the roof. The family appreciates all the work and understands about saving and having a budget. BISD needs to save and save and then work hard during the summer to remodel the restrooms. New schools get old soon and have no history.
I'm voting YES! FUCK YOU CHARLIE KIRK, FUCK YOU TACO, FUCK YOU ABBOTT, FUCK YOU TEXAS REPUBLICANS!
Hopefully TEAwill take control. Supervise by US ? Are you brain dead? NO MORE PROPERTY TEXAS!
More money to BISD is just fueling the corruption.
Go to sleep Jerry
Hahaha ๐, I told you .. you were gonna get shit on. You are not fooling the public on this one.
Like the golf course in the country club. Old as shit.
I know this comment was just posted to rattle Republicans and trick them into voting against common sense. It was probably from the paid people trying to lure us into voting NO on the props. Nice try, I'm still voting YES.
Hahaha half of the accounts on social media that say "vote NO" are paid trolls. WTH!
Says an unneeded BISD administrator who will soon be unemployed.
I do not know one person who is going to vote yes. If BISD needs to be downsized due to fewer illegal students taking up space, so be it. VOTE NO!
With the obvious decline in birth rates, this is a NO for me. This to me is just a patch to a bigger problem but certainly not a resolution to anything. They need to figure out a way to move that LF school tax line. In the end this will be paid by the tax payer, they just don’t want to admit it. The BISD needs to tighten up and improve management of itself from within. Hard NO! More school will close and they will forward that money to another project that will get lost in translation. I’m not affiliated with anyone or any entity, I’m just an average Joe and looking out for the community. Citizens please vote NO!!
Truth bomb
Who is WE? BISD got tons of money from the state. Where is the money? The State also gave a raise to teachers. BISD has money.
No. vote No. BISD just gest money and shows no results. Are the students graduating with skills that help them get a job? No. Vote No.
They? School Board members? BISD has the money. Who decides who we hire? School Board Members? The Mafia? The Cartels? Who is controlling the money at BISD? Explain this. We do not want another School Board member dead. Explain your posting better. Who is They? Who makes the decisions?
Yes! Yes!
October 3 @ 9:32... MORON MORON MORON...now go buy a can of refried beans and tortillas and calm done you stupid fuck!
Vote NO.
Schools in Texas are closing mainly due to budget deficits and declining student enrollment, exacerbated by the lack of federal funding and the Texas legislature's failure to increase basic funding for education. Many districts are struggling with rising costs and insufficient resources to maintain operations.

Reasons for School Closures in Texas
Budget Shortfalls
Many Texas school districts are facing significant budget deficits. This is largely due to the failure of the Texas legislature to increase basic allotment funding during the 88th session.
Schools are struggling with rising costs, including inflation, which has surged over 22% since 2019. This has made it difficult for districts to maintain their budgets.
Declining Enrollment
A decrease in student enrollment has also contributed to the financial challenges. As fewer students attend schools, funding decreases, leading to potential closures.
Expiration of Federal Funding
The end of federal COVID-19 relief funds has left many schools without critical financial support. These funds were essential for addressing immediate needs during the pandemic.
Legislative Decisions
The Texas legislature has not increased the basic student allotment since 2019, which is crucial for school funding. An increase of at least $1,000 per student is needed just to keep up with inflation.
Local and State Tax Issues
Texas has a tax system that relies heavily on local property taxes, which can vary significantly. This system has not provided adequate funding to meet the needs of a growing student population.
These factors combined have led to the closure of over 10 schools in North Texas alone, as districts are forced to make difficult decisions to balance their budgets.
Stop listening to morons who deny science, don't know what research is, they think research is just an overview of a basic AI search. Like they googled it, LOL. Do not listen to these morons. Vote Yes, on Prop 1and 2.
Yes, studies indicate that many Texas schools are underfunded, with over 73% of districts facing funding gaps that negatively impact student performance. Additionally, issues such as historic inflation, lack of state funding increases, and the expiration of federal COVID-19 relief funds contribute to the challenges schools face.

Reasons for Underperformance in Texas Schools
Funding Issues
Underfunding: Over 73% of Texas school districts are underfunded, with 17% classified as "severely" underfunded. This means they face a funding gap of over 40% compared to their needs.
Inflation Impact: The basic funding allotment has not increased since 2019, failing to keep pace with inflation, which has risen over 22%. Schools need an additional $1,300 per student to maintain their purchasing power.
Accountability System Changes
Controversial Reforms: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is updating its accountability system, which may lead to lower grades for many districts despite improvements in student performance. Critics argue that the new grading methods are unfair and were implemented without proper notice.
Public Perception: Accountability ratings significantly influence parental choices regarding schools, potentially leading to a decline in enrollment for districts receiving lower grades.
Academic Performance Trends
Declining Proficiency: A significant percentage of Texas students are not meeting proficiency standards. For instance, 76% of eighth graders scored below proficient in math in 2022, a notable increase from previous years.
Chronic Absenteeism: Approximately 28% of Texas students were chronically absent during the 2021-2022 school year, which negatively impacts academic performance.
Additional Challenges
Budget Deficits: Many districts are adopting deficit budgets due to rising costs and the expiration of federal COVID-19 relief funds. This financial strain leads to cuts in programs and staff.
Legislative Inaction: The lack of funding increases from the Texas Legislature has exacerbated the challenges faced by schools, limiting their ability to invest in necessary resources and programs.
Addressing these issues is crucial for improving the educational outcomes in Texas schools.
Notice how the majority of our issues are about underfunding schools and students? It's from the tippy top, it's not about mismanagement at the local level. What all of a sudden in the past 5 years all these schools are just closing down at once?
I got my brown paper bag and my take home pay!
Putting 500 million in the hands of Carlos Elizondo and Minerva Pena ….. HELL NO!!!!! No No No!!!!
No one said a thing about Elon when everyone was accepting his millions. Now that you all have spent the money you start making accusations. And if this man is on drugs that's his business. Not your's. I'm pretty sure you have some skeletons in your closet.
Well what the FUCK?
Proposition A $385 million for renovations and improvements, CTE Center Proposition B $75 million New Performing Arts Center Say yes and Property Taxes will go down. (BISD needs to sell the vacant , abandoned schools) Where did BISD get the monies to put signs all over the city? BISD is out of control. This is the wrong time to spend money like crazy.
If BISD could put all this effort to make students learn, Brownsville residents could be in a better place. So much energy, so much money, so much passion to steal money from residents but ZERO for improving the learning of our kids.
BISD knows how to steal. Has formed Bond Presentation Teams.
Team 1: Dr. Nellie Cantu/Alejandra Aldrete
Team 2 Beatriz Hernandez/Adrian Dorsett
Team 3: Rose Longoria/ J.J.De Leon
Team 4: Dolores Emerson/Rosie Pena
Team 5: Dr. Norma Ibarra Cantu / Gilbert Leal
Team 6: Mary Garza/ Isabel de la Cruz
Team 7: Dr. Alma Cardenas Rubio/Dr. Roni Rentfro
Team 8 Dr. Linda Gallegos/Carlos Olvera
Team 9 Miguel Salinas/Michael Garcia
Team 10 A Guerrero/Julie Salinas
Team for students to learn, be prepared, learn skils: ZERO TEAMS
Brownsville corrupt politicians consider the Stillman House Museum, built in 1850 historical. Really? Historical are the pyramids in Egypt, which date back over 4,500 years.
Nice try, the public is in full force (hell no) vote no. I love the face book comments. They caught you morons deleting comments and you still can’t give a good answer. You can start by trimming the top. ๐๐ป๐๐

Tu mommy guey, your mom? LOL
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman
Gender
Most women are cisgender, meaning their female sex assignment at birth corresponds with their female gender identity. Some women are transgender, meaning they were assigned male at birth.[7] Trans women may experience gender dysphoria, the distress brought upon by the discrepancy between a person's gender identity and their sex assigned at birth.[74] Gender dysphoria may be treated with gender-affirming care, which may include social or medical transition. Social transition may involve changes such as adopting a new name, hairstyle, clothing, and pronoun associated with the individual's affirmed female gender identity.[75] A major component of medical transition for trans women is feminizing hormone therapy, which causes the development of female secondary sex characteristics (such as breasts, redistribution of body fat, and lower waist–hip ratio). Medical transition may also involve gender-affirming surgery, and a trans woman may undergo one or more feminizing procedures which result in anatomy that is typically gendered female.[76][77] Like cisgender women, trans women may have any sexual orientation.
Check out the peer reviewed references, that's science. Or you could take the word from your tio who eats boogers, paints his nails, and is a closeted gay man who hangs out with men aged 18-24. LOL.
Nice thread, good discussion. As a former BISD administrator, man and father that got fired for insubordination (for refusing to search teenage girls for drugs) I think it is hilarious that recently a middle school head principal and coach got caught fxing on school property during school hours and nothing happened to them. It’s who you know and who you blow. Vote NO and let the district DIE
BISD is going to win. They have Teams going around every school telling employees to vote YES. It is a done deal. BISD wins.
It is unfair but they want more money to steal. The new generation of School Board members need money for retirement.
Teachers give work to students and students do not do it.
At Lunch the students are given a good plate with good food and students do not touch the food and just throw it away. Students are guided to be well behaved and students cuss teachers and beat principals up.
Tell me about their good work??? I have yet to see any good work come from Minerva in the nearly 20 years she’s been a board member. Now Carlos Elizondos good work, what, Carlos does good work??? The only good work that fool does is stuffing his pockets with contractors mordidas!
Long ass response, typicall whiner.
๐คฐthat happens with ๐๐ฆ๐️..๐. You can bull shit all you want. 2 dudes equal a dirty smudge penis. 2 pancakes can friction all it wants. Carpet is gonna happen.
It’s very clear Nobody has ever really LAID PIPE IN YOU. ๐คช๐
๐ ๐ซก ,,
So let BISD go down. TEA may run it more effectively and efficiently. The waste needs to stop. The city, county and BISD administrators have stolen enough. Everythng comes to an end. Thank GOD for that.
A lot of meaningless words. Bottom line we the tax payers need accountability. Taxpayers are spending a lot of money on education and getting zero results.
To whoever made the comment about "The obvious decline in birth rates"....have you been to the Southmost area lately???!!!
๐ ๐, ๐๐๐คฃ๐ฅน.. They my friend are pro creating like MF’r.. not the best and brightest but ๐๐ฆ they are.
I actually have, that’s where my parents house is, no one lives there anymore! Everyone has moved to Olmito, LF, or the north side of town as I did (which are all zoned to LF). Lots of empty houses from humble families, don’t be fooled. The southmost area is dying down and is the culprit of why they plan on closing more schools in that area when compared to any other area. Houses back in my day had 3-5 kids, now at max there are 2 at best or retired folks who don’t even have kids anymore. The study was done 5 years ago that warned the district about this and the declining birth rates. They have it but are hiding the data.
