FROM LA MARKETA DE BROWNTOWN TEXAS, TO THE SQUAD BAYS OF NORTH CLICK...HAPPY 250TH B'DAY BROTHER GYRENES..."OORAH"

(Ed.'s Note: When I volunteered for the United States Marine Corps at 18 in 1972, I didn't know about the traditions of the Halls of Montezuma, Iwo Jima, or John Wayne. I only knew that I wanted to stop working for Jim Johnson's segundas warehouse, and out of Browntown quick.

And that they did.

One day at Market Square with the recruiter, the next at the Bluebonnet Hotel in San Antonio for the physical, then getting off the plane in California to stand on the yellow footprints at the recruit depot in San Diego. The Crotch allowed me to do this and introduced me to a whole different world of discipline, regimentation, honor, and patriotism on steroids. It was the best thing I ever did, the rigors of military life notwithstanding.

It was only until after my honorable discharge that I realized that I had become member of a brotherhood and tradition formed of the leanest, meanest bunch of Americans who filled the yellow footprints at the depot.

At least two nephews have stepped on the same prints since. Happy birthday from one grunt to another, bros.
The story of our emblem: We took the eagle from the Army, the anchor from the Navy...and on the seventh day the Lord rested and we overran his perimeter and took the globe. OORAH!"

Did you make it to 'Nam?

If not, why not? And if you didn't, stop acting like the tough Marine.

No, I am not a "Chupa Anus." I appreciate Juan's work.

Yes, we are sorry ass fucks with nothing better to do than to rag on Juan for being so full of himself. Do we really give a shit that he's pounding his puny Jarhead chest? In another life Montoya would have led the Marines invasion of Chapultepec that killed six Niños Heroes, one of whom was a Montoya.

Why thank you for your service? Was he not paid for his service? Was he not fully supported while serving? Is he not receiving free health care? Lastly does he not get a free meal from local restaurants on certain holidays?

If I had had the life that Mr. Montoya had I too would take the time to state "this is me in my other life time."

Some of you are just jealous.

Nice comment about the trappings of the USMC Insignia. All due respect though and from a US Navy Veteran: it takes the Army, the Navy, and the Lord to help you grunts out....because without us, all you do is BARK.....LOL! All in fun, of course....and you can always ride with us (USN) and we'll take you (USMC) anywhere "we" want you to go. LOL again. Hoorraahhh!

To Da Nang '68-'69: ever hear about the tough Marine that bragged about being in 'Nam and also flashing a fake Purple Heart? Turns out he was a cook in the Da Nang military base. Could that be you?
