TO JOHN DOE: TEXAS TAKES DOWN NO. 3 TEXAS A&M IN AUSTIN ON BLACK FRIDAY; HOOKED THEM HORNS!

NCAA

No. 16 Texas stunned No. 3 Texas A&M on Black Friday, rallying in the second half for a 27–17 win in the second year of the return of the Lone Star Showdown in Austin. The victory denied the Aggies a trip to the SEC championship game and capped a dominant final two quarters from Steve Sarkisian’s squad.

After trailing 10–3 at halftime, Texas seized control behind Arch Manning and an improved ground attack. Manning hit Ryan Wingo for a 29-yard touchdown to give the Longhorns their first lead, then set up another score with a 54-yard strike to Jack Endries late in the third quarter. Nick Townsend punched in a two-yard touchdown to stretch the advantage to 20–10.

Texas A&M answered early in the fourth with a six-play scoring drive capped by EJ Smith, but Manning responded moments later with the play of the night: a 35-yard touchdown run that pushed the lead back to double digits with just over seven minutes remaining.

From there, the Longhorns’ defense closed it out behind Marcel Reid’s mistakes. The redshirt-sophomore quarterback threw back-to-back interceptions on consecutive drives in the final minutes, icing the game as Texas secured its biggest rivalry win of the season.
