Brownsville Fire Department deemed the apartment complex building a total loss following a large fire Sunday morning.
At approximately 11:10 a.m., Brownsville Fire Department responded to a fire at the Palacio Real Apartments complex, located at 1165 East Wild Rose Lane.
At the scene, fire crews found Building 4 of the apartment complex, which has 28 apartments, 27 of them occupied by an estimate of 42 residents, fully engulfed in flames.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire originated in Apartment 4-18, according to an updated news release from the Brownsville Fire Department.
At the time when crews arrived at the scene, firefighters had come across with a heavy fire within the residence and acted quickly.
Fire officials report one man is being treating for burns. Meanwhile, two Brownsville Police officers are being evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
The Brownsville Fire Department is working alongside the Brownsville Police Department and Office of Emergency Management to help the residents. The American Red Cross is also helping affected residents to secure shelter, resources, and other essential necessities at this time.
Additionally, crews are working to get the power back on for residents of the other apartment buildings in the complex.
