Special to El Rrun-Rrun
You can donate clothing, toys, even cars. But by far the kettles are meant to gather monetary donations.
One of our readers called the McAllen Salvation Army office and was told that the SA would be giving away winter coats to needy families. But there's a catch, you have to go to Harlingen or McAllen to get one...or Matamoros, but nowhere in Brownsville.
As a matter of fact, the SA is a sponsor of the Boys and Girls Clubs, but (and there's always a but) there isn't one in Brownsville., The nearest one, apparently, is the Boys and Girls Club in Los Fresnos.
That fact takes away some of the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from donating to the poor. Apparently, the powers that be have excluded Brownsville residents and kids from their largesse. We are not saying that you shouldn't give to this fine cause, but do so knowing that you generosity will probably benefit those in McAllen, Harlingen, or Matamoros.

Go to Los Fresnos to get a Coat and while you are there visit the St.Cecilia Catholic Church this Christmas 🎄 🙏
I was told some time ago that the people of Brownsville are mostly all ugly, so why give them a new coat? Plus, Juan, dig deeper and you'll find that Brownsville does not donate like they do in McAllen and Harlingen.
FACT
Brownsville residents are low class individuals who are ignorant and rude. This may be caused by its proximity to filthy Matamoros.
Aren't they anti-gay?
That is a FACT, bro.
These "charities" have a CEO that takes a big chunk of the proceeds. The United Way and Breast Care Foundation CEOs live in huge mansions. They are good causes but there is always someone skimming off the top.
The ugly people in Brownsville are the transients.
Yellow journalism
Don't you remember the scandal at the Brownsville Boys & Girls Club where the director was caught stealing money? That is the norm (acceptible in today's society) but those who have dealt with Brownsville remember this except people from Brownsville including its "watch dog" bloggers I guess? This is why other RGV cities do better than us.
We had a Boy's Club in the 70's and 80's, then Boy's & Girl's Club in the 90's. At one time we had three. The Main unit in downtown, Gonzalez Park, and Oliveira Park Units.
What happened to our Boy's & Girl's Clubs? Why did Brownsville lose them? How did Brownsville F_ck it up? I remember United Way and GMS Disposal were big sponsors of it.
