TRUMP FUMES AT CUELLAR FOR NOT SWITCHING PARTIES AFTER PARDON: DOES HE EXPECT QUID PRO QUO FOR THEM?

President Donald Trump rebuked Rep. Henry Cuellar on Sunday for a “lack of loyalty,” just days after pardoning the Texas Democrat.

Cuellar, who along with his wife was charged in 2024 with accepting $600,000 in bribes from foreign entities, filed to run for reelection as a Democrat in his battleground South Texas district on Wednesday — the same day he received a pardon from Trump — quelling speculation that the moderate lawmaker intended to switch parties.

“Only a short time after signing the Pardon, Congressman Henry Cuellar announced that he will be ‘running’ for Congress again, in the Great State of Texas … as a Democrat, continuing to work with the same Radical Left Scum that just weeks before wanted him and his wife to spend the rest of their lives in Prison - And probably still do!” Trump wrote in a Sunday morning post to his Truth Social platform.

He lambasted Cuellar for “a lack of LOYALTY, something that Texas Voters, and Henry’s daughters, will not like.” At the same time, he criticized Democrats for “mercilessly” attempting to “destroy” Cuellar and his family in the post, adding that he had not spoken with Cuellar nor his family about the pardon but was moved by a letter written by his daughters.

“The Dems were vicious, and all because Henry strongly wanted, correctly, BORDER SECURITY,” he wrote in the post.

In the November letter, which Trump posted to TruthSocial on Sunday morning, Cuellar’s two daughters pleaded with the president to “show mercy and compassion to our parents.” They specifically cited their father’s willingness to “speak his mind” about border security, referring to an encounter at a White House picnic in which Trump apparently called Cuellar “a good man.”

Cuellar told reporters Wednesday that “nothing has changed” in the wake of the pardon, adding that he was still “a good old conservative Democrat.”

Trump, in a Truth Social post announcing the pardon, accused former President Joe Biden of weaponizing the Justice Department against his opponents. Cuellar tol Politico on Friday that he hopes his Republican colleagues will investigate the prosecutors who charged him and his wife with bribery.

The pardon — which Cuellar said came as a surprise even to him — was issued just a day after Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, a former Democrat who was widely seen as the GOP’s top recruit to challenge Cuellar, announced his campaign for the 28th District as a Republican.

Cuellar, long a top target for Republicans, is set to defend his seat in a district made more competitive for the GOP under Texas’ newly drawn congressional map.

A spokesperson for Cuellar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A pardon doesn't change the fact that a crime may have been committed. I would vote against Cuellar.

It’s gotten so bad in our country that even the sacrosanct “honor among thieves” is no longer viable. Cuellar’s district was left untouched by the gerrymandering Nazis in the special session because the pardon for party switch was a done deal. Cuellar then reneged because he needs the coconut Democrats to get re-elected. He forgot to tell General Bone Spurs. Relax Trumpo, your boy will do as told. He needs the bread.
