SOFT PRIVATE EVENT OF MYSTERIOUS NEW HUNKY DORY AT OLD PALM LOUNGE

(Ed.'s Note: We were not fortunate enough to have been invited to the wild card playoff National Football game between the Pittsburg Steelers and the Houston Texans which was held Monday night. It was heralded as a "private" event at the old Historical Palm Lounge now renamed Hunky Dory. The new bar located at 757 E. Elizabeth Street in downtown Brownsville, Texas and was anticipated to open in late winter in 2025.

Old fans will notice that the traditional logo was painted over and the Palm Lounge name apparently doesn't exist anymore. In fact, few people have seen the interior and during the day the place appears shut and gated down. Perhaps the mystery and exclusive aspect of surrounding the new club is part of an elaborate marketing campaign to stir the curiosity of potential customers. With Charro Days approaching in late February, we wonder whether the annual pilgrimage of former Brownsville residents who flock here to see the BISD Children' Parade in the early afternoon from the bar during the annual fiesta will occur.

On the other hand, we're happy to report that the Texans beat the Aaron Rogers-led Steelers 30-6. The score is deceptive because both teams turned in a lackluster game. The winners will go on to face the resurgent New England Patriots.

If you were one of the fortunate patrons Monday night, can you share a photo of the inside of the new bar? We're all dying to see it. See? The marketing is working!)

I for one will not lose sleep wondering what the bar looks like inside. Just another bar. There's plenty of them all over town.

Gentrification my friend. The average Joe bars are gone. Get ready for $9 Dollar Beer Night. As George Carlig would say, "It's a Big Club, and you ain't in it." It is all run and owned by the elite for the elite.

Juan Montoya runs downtown! How dare you not let him in without paying? Free advertising for the Hunky Dory Gay bar. LOL

Exactly. If Juan Montoya is not invited and treated with great honor and respect, this Hunky Dory will go down the drain. Montoya for Mr. Amigo.

I'll stick to the Sportsman. They got a TV too. I refuse to go to any bar that sells me drinks that cost more than Charlie's Lounge , (les of course it's for some of Charlie's angels). Hoity-toity bars are good for one drink, then get the hell out of there. Te Watcho

Seran los bares que los carteles de Mexico estan comprando (y luego el turi que esta en BCIC y Pedito el comisionado) les favorecen dinero porque dicen que son negocios principiantes en El Centro del Brownsville?
