On the eve of Thursday's grand announcement by the Mr. Amigo Association on who this year's Mr. Amigo celebrity will be, El Rrun-Rrun's psychic-in-residence and fortune teller the Great Carnac, is going out on a limb and predict that it will be Mexican actor/crooner Carlos Rivera.
Furthermore, the Great Carnac said that his revelation indicates that the force behind the selection of Rivera to visit Brownsville as an ambassador of goodwill to the southlands was none other than former Brownsville pal Mr. Amigo – and Donald Trump acolyte – José Eduardo Verástegui Córdoba, who tried to run for the Mexican presidency in 2024 and was investigated and fined for illegally receiving and concealing money from his companies in the United States to fund his collection of signatures necessary to get on the ballot.
Verástegui posed in combat gear and an assault rifle and advocated shooting gay people and held Trump to be the ideal leader. He failed, much to the relief of the majority of Mexican voters.
He came up short and was not be a candidate, according to the Mexican federal elections commission which investigated the illegal transfers to interfere in the Mexican elections and continues the probe. But he was Arturo (Turi) Treviño's choice and he rammed it down the throat of the MAA's pliant board. Nobody in Brownsville knew who their Mexican pal was before that, and few knew who he was after he left.
We polled our seven readers in Brownsville and drew a blank on Rivera. The average Browntown barrio dweller wouldn't know him from Adan. Ah, well, as long as Turi knows.
Rivera is a Mexican singer who rose to fame by winning the third generation of La Academia, a type of Mexican reality show/talent contest. He has released four studio albums and participated in six theatre productions. Additionally, he has starred in Spanish-language productions of Beauty and the Beast, Mamma Mia, and The Lion King.
Will the Great Carnac be right?
Up to now, he is hitting 1.000 and the editorial board is betting/hoping Carnac's crystal ball hasn't become opaque and that our mystic-in-residence's clairvoyance won't be clouded. We'll soon know this Thursday, when the naming of Mr. Amigo (will it be Rivera?) will be announced.
