AFTER DWI, LOPEZ ASKS FOR RESPECT OF OUR LEGAL PROCESSS

By Joey Lopez
Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner

"Last night I was arrested on a charge of DWI. I am deeply sorry.

This matter is now part of an active legal process, and it would not be proper for me to comment on the details at this time. I respect the law and will fully cooperate as this matter moves forward. I have served this community my entire adult life, and I remain committed to the people of Cameron County.

I understand the concern that situations like this can create in our community. Public trust matters deeply to me, and I take seriously the responsibility that comes with serving in public office. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to have the facts reviewed fairly. l recognize the seriousness of this situation, have a deep respect for our legal process, and ask you to withhold judgment until its conclusion.

This past year has been one of the most difficult of my life following the loss of my wife. Losing her has been incredibly painful, and I continue to navigate that grief every day.

During this time, I have been grateful for the compassion and support so many in our community have shown my family and me.

I also understand that during an election season situations like this can quickly become part of the political conversation and overshadow a lifetime of work.

Despite this situation, my love for Cameron County and commitment to serving its residents remain unchanged. I will continue focusing on the work that matters most to our community — improving infrastructure and drainage, strengthening public services, and addressing the everyday needs of the people I represent.

I remain deeply grateful for the support of this community and committed to serving Cameron County with integrity and dedication."

Wow. So I was an administrator 20 years in BISD, after being a spy in the military. Then I got arrested and fired for being hungover. I feel for Joey. I don’t think he should have to go through this. His daughter is a board member. What a fake B. But it is ok. What do you all think is going to happen when they quit getting federal funds? Daddy Trump is going to F you all and it will be WW3 time.

While the personal tragedies involving his family are deeply regrettable, they do not provide a justification for endangering public safety. Utilizing alcohol as a coping mechanism—particularly while operating a vehicle—raises fundamental questions regarding his judgment and fitness for office. Rather than seeking public sympathy, the most responsible course of action would be a formal resignation. Unfortunately, local voting trends suggest a recurring tolerance for such ethical lapses, which complicates the path toward more accountable leadership in Brownsville.

Deputy or policeman should have cut him some slack. Driven him home etc. We don't need bad press for local politicians anymore.

What about Republican meth-heads on White Lightning?

He lacks judgement. As many who know the loss of a partner I understand the drinking. When your partner passes over Rainbow Bridge it is like one of your limbs is cut off and nothing fills the void. However, you drink at home, don't get behind the wheel of your car, and definitely get grief counseling.

This man has money. He knows where to get help. He even has great health insurance. I am not judging just stating the facts.

Think that your wife is no longer suffering.

I think he is a schizophrenic who is off his meds. He probably claims to have great hear, when what he hears are the voices in his head.
