(After two years in the role, Brownsville ISD Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez announced he is retiring. Chavez made the announcement during a February school board meeting. He said he will finish out his contract — which ends in June 2026 — before retiring. A majority of the board at that meeting voted to approve his retirement then.)

XII.E.1. Discussion and consideration regarding the Superintendent’s contract, including placing the Superintendent on administrative leave, suspension, or termination of contract. Discussion and consideration on naming an Interim Superintendent. (Board Agenda Request Carlos Elizondo/Board Support Minerva Pena)
This past February Brownsville Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez announced – and a board majority accepted – his retirement effective June 30.
That acceptance, however, is now under challenge with two agenda items, to be heard in executive session, that Chavez be terminated immediately and an interim superintendent be appointed in his place.
The agenda items for Chavez's removal to be considered come as the BISD Board of Trustees had already begun the vetting process to select the next superintendent. The two trustees requesting the agenda item are Carlos Elizondo supported by Minerva Peña.

Elizondo and Peña are usually joined by trustee Frank Ortiz. Sources say that board members Denise Garza and Neida Ruth Soto-Grantland are "on the fence."
So far, neither Elizondo nor Peña have made public their choice for Chavez interim replacement.

BISD and TSC need to be strong and focused if they are going to be able to keep up with what is coming at the Port and the city. BISD is losing money and has lost credibility …….what was once a beacon of strength and an award winning school district is now a model of how far an organization can fall under years of bad management and political hires. What we have witnessed is a painful and slow dismantling of a what once was a winning district. But hey, we have soccer and a very expensive Sam's Stadium and turfed fields.
Let’s be real Montoya, we all know what went down in that meeting. Denise flipped on Daniela joining La Rata Pelona and Not so Minnie. He didn’t want to “retire” he was forced into it. It was a shocker Denise flipped! What was not a shocker were her poor pole numbers at her attempt at county clerk, you wonder why? She lost all her support after that poor decision she made.
"La Rata Pelona" Carlos Elizonda's only purpose of being on the board is - what's in it for me!!! He is a cunning, underhanded, low-life criminal who has been caught multiple times in theft. Remember, he stole money from the Brownsville Fire Department Local 970 union, stole money from the city by redirecting ambulance calls to his part-owner ambulance company, stole building material from a builder that was working for him, stole a wheelchair from a local hospital, and had numerous sexual affairs with women while on duty as a firefighter. As a result of theft from the Firefighter's Union, he was fired as Fire Chief and has been arrested multiple times, and the list goes-on-and-on.....And, now his little dick is being sucked by clueless Minerva and panochita Frank Ortiz. The ones that need to be removed are these dirtbag clowns.
Only in Brownsville would anyone vote in AGAIN a person with a bad record and reputation.
We can't wait until the next election to DUMP you crooks either
Everyone is attacking each other- what they should be attacking are the enrollment numbers …and the fact that he is leaving. What you do this summer determines if I move my kid back to private school or stay on the public school path. Uncertainty and ugly buildings—-doesn’t help any business. We’ve invested too much at Sams already—- students still leave. Clean up your SCHOOLS! Run the district like a business..use the numbers to make your decisions.
"La Rata Pelona" 😝😆 what a fitting nickname. Just how low do you have to be to be stealing wheelchairs
Well you keep voting the same people into the same positions time and time again. So don't bitch when decisions are done and you don't like them. find a new candidate or run yourself!
Wow, you really know Carlos, but can you prove it is another story. NO proof, no conviction on anything so you got nothing just personal bitching.
She switched? Hmmm didn’t notice nor did it impact my vote . She ran against a machine and did great considering it was her first county election. I’m proud of her courage to get in there …..
Wow - proof? Of not is he a fool or does he have the courage to demand more? Hmmm we may never know
