(Ed.'s Note: Apparently, assistant city manager Doroteo Garcia is resigned to his belief that since he is a local resident, his candidacy for city manager is doomed from the get-go. This post – surprising for a candidate to go public – makes clear that he doesn't think that the city commission will select a local candidate for city manager.
The other candidates are Brownsville Police Chief/Asst. City Manager Felix Sauceda, Assistant City Manager and Police Chief, Brownsville, Steve Williams, City Manager of Schertz, Texas, Majed Al Ghafy, City Manager, DeSoto, Texas, and Edwina "Edy" Benites-LM, Interim Director of Economic Development, Jefferson County, West Virginia.
To local wags, when Garcia refers to his father-in-law, he is talking about former city commissioner and Pct. 2 Cameron County commissioner Ernie Hernandez, who left his elected office rather unceremoniously after he negotiated a deal with Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz, to avoid prosecution for his role in "fixing" the hiring of his brother-in-law as a non-commissioned security guard at one of the county's international bridges. Testimony at the trial of his assistant Raul Salazar, indicated that Hernandez had manipulated the system to provide the answers to the questions on the Civil Service exam to qualify for the position.
To "Ernie," local preference meant steering business to his sign-making business and his barbecue catering enterprise. If Garcia is chosen for city manager, how much "pull" will Ernie have?
Doroteo Garcia's wife is local attorney Erin Hernandez Garcia, who this time ran for judge of the 107th District Court and did not make the runoff.)

The city of Brownsville is fucked. City officials should just copy what ever McAllen does because they know how to run a successful city. Nothing here but corruption at City Hall with corrupt land speculators on the commission trading on insider information, corruption at PUB and BISD. Brownsville is a shit stain.
For me any local who is seeking this job seems okay to have themselves and family dragged down into the quagmire of Brownsville under John Cowen. Did he really believe he had a chance without any politico support? His wife could not even make a run-off as the only female. They have zero support for anything. Forget about Ernie. How much is he promising the local politico fools if he is hired? We are so screwed.
Ah brownsville, always looking for a crook? At least, we know now that ernie's C@#& daughter had no chance of winning as a district judge? The numbers only showed and proved that ernie, the rat carries no more political weight in brownsville. DA saenz should have prosecuted that fat piece of shit, period!
A rule of thumb for a shitty politician. They drive a Tesla. I'm that guy throwing you the middle finger anytime I see a Tesla. 1st amendment protected activity. Just pull up to a stop, honk, roll down your window, say 👋 and flip 'em with a smile.
I’m that guy slapping you across the face as you try to throw the finger. Such a tough guy you claim to be when the only thing you’re capable of is throwing the finger. Grow up….
Doro never stood a chance plain and simple. He can be mad about it all he wants but everyone saw the scrutiny he was going to bring to the city. Your in-laws aren’t a plus in this game anymore. Sadly, they never were a positive. Ernie didn’t get indicted but Erin and Doro are taking the stones that should have hit him (Ernie). Ernie might walk away thinking he got away with it (which he did) but look who’s paying for it now. Ask anyone at the city how smooth engineering process are under Doro, they’re so-so and rocky.
Take a peek at the Cannery project! He dropped the ball there. Overall, he’s a gentleman but I feel he was reaching for a job that is out of his range of expertise.
Brownsville is fortunate to have three native sons capable of stepping into the role; however, only two have applied, and all three bring extensive municipal experience. Since this decision rests with the City Commission—and ethics has emerged as a key factor in evaluating qualifications—it is fair to ask whether Commissioners themselves are held to standards above reproach. While I will not delve into potential conflicts or financial interests here, those considerations should weigh less in the Commission’s selection than experience, competence, and the ability to lead effectively.
A full disclosure of taxpayer funds spent on initiatives such as OneCity and Total Alignment—including consultants, travel, meals, receptions, guest speakers, retreats, and related events—would likely surprise many Brownsville residents. Greater transparency in these expenditures would help build public trust.
While it may be reasonable to pass on local candidates due to limited experience in other municipalities, ethics, honesty, and integrity alone should not be the sole compass guiding the City Commission’s decision. A balanced evaluation—grounded in proven performance, capability, and sound judgment—will ultimately serve the community best.
Erin thought she had a chance to become a Judge with all the family’s baggage. Not so bright
Felix "el chapo" Sauceda is a joke in itself. Never knew how to run a police department, never knew how to write a search warrant, never knew how to keep his marriage together. Now he has his little helper, MamaLouie following him around like the peasant that he is. What's next Danny Marks for mayor???
I get what you’re saying and all but realistically speaking the city commission is elected for decisions like this. They’re elected by their peers and in that they hold the power to make this decision, period. If that is not the case, then what is the point of them? A city manager has 7 bosses, whether they’re liked by the people or not. No matter what anyone says this is how government is ran, this is procedural order, this is the USA. The city manager is high-stakes poker, you must perform, you must have order, and you must recognize the prosperity of the city is in your hands. This is not a “you’re my friend and I’ll give you a shot” kind of situation. This is about who is driving this machine further than ever thought of. Out with the compadre system of old!
DA Sawnz himself should be prosecuted for his selective justice!
Erin would have made a hell of a lot better Judge than jerk off Chuy Garcia!
Wow
Credit to his father in law how sad
Does he not have a father?
Or has he disassociated from his blood lines?
Makes you wonder why
...
Karma thats all
