Special to El Rrun-Rrun
For the second time, a Public Information Request by El Rrun-Rrun has again yielded little – if any – of the responsive materials requested.
A recent public information request has raised questions about the creation and hiring of A Director of Government Affairs position by the Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC).
In response to the request, the organization stated that no information was withheld or redacted. The first request generated a one-page response that did not address any of our questions.
This second time, the materials provided did not include several types of records typically associated with hiring and position creation, including:

This second time, the materials provided did not include several types of records typically associated with hiring and position creation, including:
*Board action or approval
*Job postings or recruitment materials:
*Applications or information on other candidates
*Interview notes or evaluation records
*Documentation explaining the creation of the position
*Any analysis distinguishing the role from existing publicly funded government affairs functions
While economic development corporations are not always required to publicly post positions, the absence of these records raises questions about transparency and documentation.
The situation also raises broader questions about whether publicly funded entities are maintaining clear records to demonstrate:

The situation also raises broader questions about whether publicly funded entities are maintaining clear records to demonstrate:
*A defined need for new position
*A transparent hiring process
*Clear separation from existing publicly funded functions
A follow-up public information request-will be submitted to determine whether these records exist.
This issue highlights the importance of transparency and accountability when public funds are used.

The Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC) has solely attracted companies that contribute to pollution in our region and place a burden on our infrastructure. For instance, consider Space X. The highest compensated employees are not even local to this area. This situation will similarly apply to Texas LNG and Rio Grande LNG. I propose the dissolution of The Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation. This organization has only resulted in increased taxes for our community. Furthermore, the unemployment rate in Brownsville-Harlingen, TX stands at 7.70% as of April 2026. This marks an increase from 7.00% last month and 5.60% a year prior. There appears to be a discrepancy.
That’s correct. All they have done is bring a bunch of AH that don’t belong here. Try to buy a new house at 350k. My house just got reappraised: more tax. These dix just drive around rolling coal diesel on my convertible and think they are untouchable. Thank you King Trevino.

All of the leadership under Gilbert and Jerry need to be properly vetted, paying special attention as to what their qualifications and education are related to such positions.
All GBEDC do is travel, stay in expensive hotels, eat and drink expensive food and drinks on OUR HARD EARNED TAXES. They travel and come back and tell the board we have very good leads, we spoke to a lot of companies and they are all interested in Brownville, TX. Of course they are wink wink. They haven't brought anything to Brownsville only warehousing spaces that employ fork lift drivers and warehouse people. Maybe 10 people. What they do is take everyone elsed credit. GBEDC is a joke and a fraud. Now they added Ruben Donut OBell at 140 thousand a year working only 40 hours a week on a good week, (mostly 15 hours a week), and gets reimbursed for everything. They steal by the handfull and our elected officials do nothing about it. We either replace the current EDC employees or replace the current Commissioners and Mayor for someone who will put a stop to his theft of the elite.
Chelsea, that’s ok…your boy Guerra and short ands Garcia support a refinery! A refinery with ties to India! What could go wrong! Keep supporting all your local losers!
STFU and get a job
It doesn't matter. Our amigos at the city commission can hide it all they want but their minds are made up and they will shove our city backwards. City hall will be up for sale to the highest bidder when the Hernandez are in power once again. Just when it seemed we had an almost honest commission they show their true colors. Great job John, Villarreal and company!
Contrary to what you believe Doro will not be the next CM, if that was the case they would have pulled the trigger on it already. The hesitation comes from a place of uncertainty and not being content with the original candidates.
