FUNNY HOW COMMISSIONER GUS DE LEON NEVER MENTIONED THE SETTLEMENT OFFER

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

After we broke the story Monday on District 3 commissioner's' proposed settlement for "damages" done on his family's trust property which was put before the city commission during the July 7 meeting (see agenda item above graphic) where they considered his $1 million litigation threat, mainstream media has covered this news item.

And lo and behold!, there is nothing in the coverage by KVEO, CBS 4, or KRGV Channel 5 News that mentions the documented fact that De Leon personally has negotiated with the City Manager Alan Gard and City Attorney Will Treviño (who as commissioner he has the power to hire and fire) to reach what many criticize as an inflated "settlement" which can reach as high as $700,000 to $900,000.

In the news coverage, De Leon said that no one had authorized the city "in writing" to build the road and that they had used it to dump asphalt millings on it.

Was thera an informal "micha micha" verbal agreement working here? We'll use your property and we'll kick in some material to fix the road. It's done all the time.

Disingenuously, he insinuated that the millings spread on the road would increase the value of the property resulting in higher property taxes valuations for improvements from the Cameron County Appraisal District.

An onsite survey indicated that no "new" road was built, and that the city crews used the millings to fill in ruts on the existing road leading to the Border Wall under construction and to level the pothole-filled entrance to the property.

His late father, former city commissioner Ernesto de Leon Sr., had authorized Border Patrol agents use the road to patrol the nearby river banks as a civic gesture toward law enforcement. Ironically, Gus de Leon is a retired U.S. Customs officer but shows little regard for assisting the Border Patrol agents perform their duties.

Obviously, he's after something else: city bucks.

City crews had reportedly been using the property as a staging area to work on downtown alleys from which they gathered the asphalt millings.

De Leon told the news media that the road will remain in place until the dispute is resolved. He wants the property restored to its original condition.

"And it will be done, and everything that was thrown on our property will be removed, but it comes at a cost we shouldn't have incurred in the first place," De Leon said.

How much cost have you "incurred" and how much money do you want from the city taxpayers you represent Gus? We'll find out in the July 21 meeting where your "settlement" offer will again be considered.

City commissioner Gus de Leon calls this illegal dumping, others call it free road improvements
The collage above and the picture of the wall below were posted by the commissioner on his social page

Ok, lets pretend the Commissioner dis not know the road improvement was taking place on his land, where does the buck stop? The guy driving the dump truck and the grader operator were just following direction! Who directed? What supervisor, manager, assistant director, director, assitant city manager, deputy city manager, city manager? What's tragic if they all claim they didn't know! Who is in charge, where does the buck stop? Mayor or City Commissioners? Someone needs to turn off the lights!

Let’s be real about what happened. Gus got caught getting a free road, he then spun it to make it seem like they did him wrong! Boo-hoo hoo, I hope the Feds get involved and I hope he gets no money! None of us regular citizens could be have these options, you’re certainly not the exception Gus!

The local media has no clue as to what is going on…. They stated “ A Brownsville man…..” NO!!!!! “A BROWNSVILLE CITY COMMISSIONER!!” Is suing the city for a road he got done for free prior to getting caught with his hand in the cookie-jar. Now he pleads innocent and is suing to make it seem like he wasn’t getting the road done for free. No seas mamon GUS. We all know what really happened cabron.

Champions the ridiculous resaca fee, which should have been reimbursed in my opinion… and all the while he is suing the city he represents. Maybe his thinking was, hey, with the money I’m saving the residents on the resaca fee we will have enough money to pay myself.
Que chingon

Something VERY strange is going on at the city attorney’s office… he should be investigated.

Rank has privileges

The phrase "Rank has privileges" means that people in positions of higher authority or seniority are granted certain rights, responsibilities, or courtesies that others may not have.
It is commonly used in contexts such as:
Military: Higher-ranking officers may have access to better quarters, decision-making authority, or other privileges.
Law enforcement and emergency services: Senior personnel often have greater discretion or leadership responsibilities.
Workplaces: Managers or executives may have benefits or authority not given to other employees.
Depending on the context, the phrase can be used:
Neutrally, as a recognition that leadership comes with certain privileges and responsibilities.
Critically, to suggest that someone is receiving preferential treatment simply because of their rank.
The saying is often expanded to "Rank has its privileges." It acknowledges that advancement in an organization usually brings both increased authority and certain benefits.

Gus Deleon got into politics to steal from the taxpayers, typical

This man was elected he did not gain his rank by merit. There might be a flaw in your presupposition. All the examples you stated are all merit based.

Mr. De leon did not have to go through the process to get the position he's in. He was given a civil service test, voted in and he's a commissioner.

"I'm washing lettuce. Soon, I'll be on fries. In a few years, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in." Maurice played by Louie Anderson in -Coming to America.

I agree rank has privilege, this mutherfucker doesn't.

It seems that the new batch of politicians just what to get them some of those government funds!! Unfortunately we are left paying the price! Be careful who you vote for!

You mean Gus specifically, no one else seems to be suing for $1 million of your tax dollars, only Gus De Leon

100% and to say the word “ugh”

No! Nada mas con Gus De Leon!

Anonymous said...

The truth is Gus asked for the favor to get it paved. Someone was going to tell the truth so he spun it around and filed a lawsuit to claim his innocence. Notice how every time he speaks about this, the first thing he says is “I did not ask for this” the guilt leaks.

Anonymous said...

He did not champion the resaca fee. It was already getting cleared up prior to his election. He’s just one of those guys that likes to take advantage of situations …. Oh wait ….he’s suing for $1 million, that explains a lot

Anonymous said...

Can his district, get rid of him now? This is a first and the City has to establish rules about Commissioners doing business with the City !!!!!

Anonymous said...

Bring back Roy De Los Santos! He would have never done anything like this!

Anonymous said...

Exactamente! 100% mamon

Anonymous said...

That is right. De Leon has the right to ask for money. He has the privilege to own a property that the City needed. De Leon did not want a road, he wanted money. He was there taking pictures. He had to call the City Money Person to ask for money not be there taking pictures. The City has the money. White Collar Crime is never punished.

This is like Trump suing the IRS. If Trump can seal a deal with spit and a handshake. . .so can Mr. De Leon. The COB should pick up the asphalt bits and leave the property as it was before.

The city should fix my road, it needs drain inlets and sidewalks. Half my road is unusable although they gentrified my area, I pay my taxes and I'm not leaving, I'm not selling. Unless Trump starts labeling people terroristic communists who should be taken to the back and shot, then I'm gone, lol.
