HARLINGEN — Authorities arrested a former employee with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, according to District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.

Claudia Garcia is a former employee of the DA’s Office, according to Saenz, and was arrested Friday morning on charges of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and prohibited substance or item in a correctional facility.

(Cameron County Sheriff Manuel "Manny" Treviño said the pair was charged with introducing and possessing the prohibited substances in a Texas Department of Corrections facility located outside Cameron County, but were being held at the Rucker-Carrizalez Corrections facility in Olmito pending arraignment and a bail hearing.

"It didn't happen in one of our facilities," Treviño said.)

Robert Johnathan Vargas was also arrested on a charge of prohibited substance or item in a correctional facility.

Garcia and Vargas faced a judge on the charges Friday.

Saenz said D.A. and sheriff office investigators assisted with the investigation and arrest of Garcia.

“Her case will now be presented to the grand jury for indictment,” Saenz said.
