ARE THE CITY PROPOSITIONS SLOWING DOWN THE BLUE WAVE?

TWO DAYS OF EARLY VOTING 2026: 18,067
TWO DAYS OF EARLY VOTING 2024: 20,780
TWO DAYS OF EARLY VOTING 2022: 12,706
TWO DAYS OF EARLY VOTING 2020: 19,614
(Ed.'s Note: At first blush, it may seem that the Democratic "blue wave" has not arrived at Cameron County polling places, but this assumption disappears when you take into consideration that 2024 and 2020 were presidential election years.

A better comparison would be 2026 and 2022, both in the midterms. In that comparison, the two -day early voting 2026 turnout is surging some 5,360 votes higher (18,067-12,706) than the early voting turnout for the first two days of the turnout in 2022.

Some Democrats are saying that the inclusion of the City of Brownsville's Proposition elections is slowing down the voting as voters – specially the elderly – struggle through the long propositions to cast their vote. There are 10 more days remaining in the 2026 early voting period. At this rate, and if the turnout stays at the same proportions, 2026 will see a midterms surge as predicted by "blue-wave" Democrats.)
