* Steve Guerra barely beat former sheriff Eric Garza in the Democratic primary – despite Garza not campaigning – and being put in the race by Guerra to split the vote and get in a  runoff with incumbent Eddie Treviño (70 percent of Democrats voted against Guerra in primary).

* Mauro Garza received more votes in his party's primary than either Guerra or Eric Garza did in theirs
