After 20 years of doing just about nothing to promote this historical city, the Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau will have three newly appointed directors who hope to continue the tradition of doing nothing.
"We have vetted these new candidates very closely to make sure they continue to do nothing for the city. That's our first priority," said a city official who refused anonymity. "But doing nothing is not enough. We want to make sure there is chemistry so when the time comes to use the company's credit card there are no weird ethics or principles to get in the way. The last thing we need is for someone to have remorse."
For 20 years, the tourism board (BCVB) has done little to attract people to come down and spend money in our town, said Glenn Abhimanyusuta, a Bangalore native whose family used to operate a Central Blvd. motel. "We had to close down because all the business we were getting was truckers and hookers," Abhimanyusuta said. "This city has so much history; unfortunately most of the recent history is bad. Bad people running this town. Very bad, very bad."
The tourism board has been wracked by criticism for its lackadaisical efforts to promote Brownsville. Former BCVB CEO and President Mike C. Gonzalez resigned in 2007 for you know what. Then Mariano "Bean" Ayala replaces him and continues the BCVB tradition of doing nothing except telling Charro Days jokes and patting his superiors on the back and making them feel good.
The city commission meets tonight at 6 to appoint the new directors. The current directors appointed by the city are car salesman Rusty Brechot, County Treasurer David "La Sombra" Betancourt, and Ruben "Iron Man" Herrera. Two other city appointed "ex officio" directors, means they will have no vote on the board.

Congratulations! You win a trophy!!! It's not sloppy writing, it's called parody.
La Sombra de Betancourt
Wasn't the city supposed to get FIVE appointments. The commission may have thought that meant FIVE votes not three votes with two pendejos sitting on the side twittling their index fingers. Cabler and Sossi are about to get bitchslapped by an unhappy commission. They led the negotiations for the new contract.
So, did anyone get removed as a result of the City Commission meeting?
