CORONADO BITES THE BULLET, DOES THE RIGHT THING

(Editor's Note: Family matters called us away from this blog for a few days and we neglected to post this press release immediately. We have family from Michigan and other parts of Texas so we apologize for the delay. However, this speaks to the maturity of Captain Rene Coronado in realizing that a split vote would only help the incumbent who pretty much follows the party line endorsed by a TSC administration that continues to make our college inaccessible to many of our students by continually making it more expensive to attend here than in other community colleges. Our hats off to Captain Coronado for this unselfish move that can only benefit out local students.)

For Immediate Release
Brownsville, Texas – Friday, April 16, 2010:
Army Reserve Captain Rene Coronado withdraws from TSC Board of
Trustees – Place 5 Race, Endorses Kiko Rendon for Place 5
Army Reserve Captain Rene Coronado announced today that he is withdrawing from
the TSC Board of Trustees – Place 5 Race and endorsing Mr. Kiko Rendon, another
Candidate for Place 5.
Captain Coronado states that he had several family issues that would take up all his
time for the next several weeks and would not be available to campaign at this critical
time of the race.
Captain Coronado also stated that he and Mr. Kiko Rendon had similar goals and
agendas in hopes of improving the College, reducing cost and fees, and providing a
voice to students, employees, and district residents. “We have similar agendas and I
fully believe Mr. Rendon will do a great job as our next TSC Place 5 Trustee. He has
the knowledge and know-how to move UTB-TSC Forward, reduce college cost, increase
enrollment, and give us all a voice on the Board. I fully endorse Mr. Rendon for the
position of TSC Board Trustee – Place 5.”
Captain Coronado also announced he plans on running again in May 2012, for the
Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees because he desires to serve the people of
South Texas. “Captain Coronado is a great candidate, a soldier and war veteran, and
he is very knowledgeable about the TSC District, the Partnership Agreement, and
Budgeting, as well as other issues before the TSC Board. He will make a great
candidate in the near future.”
Mr. Kiko Rendon now faces Ms. Rosemary Breedlove alone in the Place 5 Race. Mr.
Rendon is working to reduce college tuition and fees and providing experienced
construction oversight, as well as ensuring that tax dollars are invested wisely at the
TSC District. Early Voting Starts April 26 – May 4, with the Election Scheduled for
Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Greetings. I understand not everyone will agree, but after talking with my wife and family, I have decided to stay in the Place 5 Race. With my family's support, I believe I can continue and God willing win this race. I respectfully apologize to Mr. Rendon, but I must continue. Thank you, Rene Coronado, 956-371-4775.
