BROWNSVILLE POLICE: THE MAYOR "SWAYED FROM SIDE TO SIDE"

By Juan Montoya

For the second time in the past three days, another city official has been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
News reports indicate that Brownsville Mayor Pat M. Ahumada was arrested on one count of driving while intoxicated by Brownsville police Tuesday morning. After his arraignment before Municipal Judge Ben Neece and released on a $3,500 personal recognizance bond.
This follows the arrest and arraignment on similar charges of former city commissioner Carlos Cisneros, who was charged with DWI and a family domestic violence violation in South Padre Island on Sunday after an altercation with his former wife Elena. The couple was divorced and were attempting a reconciliation, friends said.
The altercation left Cisneros with visible scratch marks on his face, and witnesses told police they were involved in a physical fight in their condominium room.
He was also released by a justice of the peace on personal recognizance on bonds of $1,500 for the domestic violence charge and $1,000 on the DWI charge.
Both men were released on personal recognizance bond.
"I'm disappointed about the incident," Ahumada told the Herald's Emma Perez-TreviƱo. "... I'm not admitting to anything."
As in the case of Cisneros, police at first have refused to release a booking mug shot and police report pending the review of the material by their police chief.
In Cisneros' case, his arrest precipitated his resignation as administrative assistant for Cameron County commissioner Pct. 2 John Wood, who is currently the Democratic candidate for the county judge's position in the November general election. He is facing Republican Carlos Cascos, the incumbent.
Ahumada just recently was cleared of charges he stole a $26,000 check made to a city vendor and deposited it in his personal bank account. A jury disagreed with prosecutors and declared him innocent of the charges.
Likewise, Cisneros had been cleared of filing falsified time sheets that Wood later signed even though evidence indicated that he was out of town on occasions that he claimed hours with the county.
Wood said he accepted Cisneros' resignation without comment.

Per the Brownsville Herald, I've known about the Mayor's experience since around 12noon. It is 5pm, and KRGV's news at 5 has yet to mention anything about the arrest. I'm wondering if Ch.5 still knows nothing about it? Whoa, if they don't.

Regarding your lead, it's mildly innacurate as Mr. Cisneros is no longer a city official. Also the opening phrase you've chosen is misleading: "For the second time in the past three days, another city official has been ..." implies that another official was arrested prior to Mr. Cisneros.

Generally, though, many commendations on your blog. Keep up the good fight!

John Wood is a pathetic weasel. How dare he makes Cisneros resign! all for political gain. How much lower can John "weasel" Wood get
