As originally rumored in El Rocinante, court officials have now confirmed that Carlos Cisneros, the former Brownsville City Commissioners and current administrative assistant to Cameron County Judge candidate John Wood, was arrested over the weekend in South Padre Island and charged with one count of domestic violence and one count of Driving While Intoxicated.
The events apparently started Saturday night when Cisneros and his estranged wife Elena were apparently in reconciliation and things went awry. Reports indicate that the couple got into a hairy one Saturday night and eventually Cisneros ended up chasing his wife in his car down the main drag in South Padre Island.
When the police intervened, the time was about 3 a.m. and Cisneros exhibited scratch marks on his face that indicated he had been involved in a no-holds barred scrap with his better half.
"If you ask me, she got the best of it," said a court official who asked for anonymity. "His face looked like it had been raked over by a combine."
Although police officials t first awould not release a mug shot of Cisneros taken during his arrest, they did confirm that the former city commissioner bore heavy scratches on his face. A photo obtained later showed a cleaned-up Cisneros, although fresh scratch marks are obvious on his nose and right cheek.
During his arraignment, the former city commissioner bore the drying scratches on his face, court observers said.
A visiting judge set bond on the domestic violence charge at $1,500 and $1,000 on the DWI. Court sources indicate that Cisneros was released on personal recognizance bond at about 11:30 a.m. Mother's Day.
Now none ther than his boss, John Wood, said Cisneros resigned his position as his administrative assistant. Wood is running against county judge Carlos Cascos in November in the general election.
"What a comedown for Carlos," said a local elected offici al. "He lost the election as city commissioner and nowhe is losin g his job as administrative assistant for Precinct 2. This fall from power has been very quick."
