THE ENEMY AT THE GATE: WHERE DOES SANCHEZ ACTUALLY LIVE?

By Juan Montoya
Is it true that both the Matamoros mayor Alfonso Sánchez Garza and his his father actually own homes and live in Brownsville?
Over time, many local residents have claimed that Sanchez owns a home on Wildrose Lane and that his family has lived in the same area for months before he was sworn into office. In fact, a prominent businessman even claims that Sanchez, at 39 the youngest mayor ever elected to that position, might have been born in a Brownsville hospital.
"One of my grandsons was born on the same day and they were in the hospital nursery together," he said. "I don't know how he can hold that position in Matamoros."
Sanchez is a civil engineer. He created the AS Construcciones company, which builds industrial complexes. He started his public service as a delegate of the Tamaulipas Institute of Housing and Urbanization and among his political activities he has been municipal political consultant to the PRI party and president of the municipal and local deputy.
He sits on the commissions of Communications and Transportation (president); Urban Development (secretary); Housing (secretary). He is also a member of the commissions on Public Security, Prevention and Social Reintegration; Finance, Planning, Budget and Public Debt; Science and Technology; Commercial and Industrial Development; and Water Resources.
It has also been rumored that he and his family – as did his predecesor Tomas Yarrington and his family – have purchased real estate on the U.S. side, including the Bouganvillia Gardens owned formerly by the Lopez Supermarket family.
"They are going to subdivide the land that is right across from IBC's El Ranchito into four large lots for each member of the family," said our source.
If this information is true,it is easy to see why conditions in our neighbor city have deteriorated into afree-fire zone. If the relatives of the Matamoros mayor would rather be in Brownsville, why worry about conditions of the residents there?

Business as usual "On the Border by the Sea". We have so many Mexicans living here, legally and illegally, and we support much of the Mexican population with our "Don't ask, don't tell immigration" policy...why be suprized that the mayor of Matamoros lives here. For years, Pat Ahumada, the mayor of Brownsville considered himself the mayor of Matamoros. If members of the cartels live here, send their kids to school here; why does a politico living here cause problems. This is what living on the border means.

Those that can, do. His living here means the U.S. taxpayers pay for his security. He obviously feels secure. Perhaps he will run for mayor here some day.

Since when does it matter where elected officials reside? Just ask Jessica Tetreau.
