AT THE PORT OF BROWNSVILLE: HAVE CARD WILL TRAVEL

By Juan Montoya

In what is getting to be an ongoing ritual, the commissioners and at the Port of Brownsville are trying their best to rack up the highest travel expenses to put past Brownsville Navigation District boards to shame.

This time it's not China, Colombia, Guatemala or Panama (thank goodness) that our wandering and jet setting commissioners and port director (and his deputy) have chosen to peddle their wares.

Instead, it's the cool Northwest that John Reed, Ralph Cowen, Sergio Lopez, Port director Eddie Campirano had his deputy Donna Eymard have chosen as their destination.

The troupe has traveled to the Port of Seattle which is hosting the American Association of Port Authorities’ 100th Annual Convention from September 11-15, 2011.

This, the largest annual convention, continues to be the largest membership meeting of the year. According to the convention's brochure, the 2011 AAPA Convention includes "technical and policy committee meetings, business sessions and social networking opportunities for port professionals and others in the marine transportation industry.

"Nearly 1,000 attendees from throughout the Americas will be in attendance with a particular skew to senior and executive management personnel from port authorities and suppliers to the port and marine industries."

Now, for all of us who have worked with governmental entities in the past, the key words here are "social networking opportunities." What's wrong with, say, a port provider invites some of our reps to go out salmon fishing or perhaps even to spend a few days out in the Pacific Northwest cooling off from the canicula in Brownsville.

We understand that on at least one occasion, the traveling comishes and their staff extended their stay (in Alaska) for one more day to take advantage of the great fishing opportunities. Knowing commissioner Cowen as we do, it is probably his opportunity to get a taste of the hospitality comforts that he can later bring to the port for his cruise ship initiative.Withe the registration fee a measly $1,400 per member, the cruise is a respite from the duties at the Port of Brownsville. What with the death toll climbing at Gulfstream Marine (managed by Reed's brother-in-law), and the lull in trucking (Serio Lopez's bailiwick), it is the perfect time to take cool breather compliments of the district's taxpayers.

Maybe they'll even bring us back a post card!

Wake up Brownsville wake up ! !

The 47,000 acres have always been reserved for the special people who controlled Brownsville back during the fishing and shrimping days of the 50's / 60's / 70's / 80's and mid 90's.

Then we trusted big boy bestirito who hand picked his board - port directors since the early 90's until he died.

Private deals, million dollar contracts to our beloved samon mamon ortiz and his staff and a select few by the big boy bestrito gave Brownsville the $ 20 million tansfer to Mexico where bestirito arranged for the multi million contracts to our beloved senator lucio sucio, samon ortiz, ex tamaulipas govenor lerma for the rail bridge to mexico that never was ! !

47,000 acres and all we have to show is a few hundred maybe a thousand jobs for 50 % mexicans and 50 % locals ! !

47,000 acres and the present port directors get all the work done within the docks which make up some 100 acres ! !

Amfels / shipbreakers use another 100 acres ! !

The docks where the old, broken, unused, shrimp boats owned by the banks have not moved for years and years ! !

Wake up port directors, earn your money and do something you have never done before ! !

Ask the people of Brownsville what we want to do with the 47,000 acres of the port ?

Build recreation parks, hell Brownsville spent millions and millions and millions to buy land for a sports park while 47,000 acres goes to waste ! !

We need fuking jobs and if you cant think outside the box then make room for the people of Brownsville who can ! !

Go cowan go ! ! Your too late if your waiting for your cut of the
$ 20 million as a port
director ! !

there is nothing wrong with this professional seminar! if anyone has personal expenses outside of the norm, then they should pay for them out of their pockets. You can't build recreational parks on that salty floodprone mosquito infested ground!!! Fix the docks, rent some more spaces, and offset the tax burden!! Please!!

Salty floodprone misquito infested ground . . . really !

Is the border wall keeping the mexican mosquitos only in the 47,000 acres and away from the sports park which is a couple of miles over ?

Your kind of thinking was exactly what big boy bestirito fooled us with for years and years and years ! !

47,000 acres !! 47,000 acres ! !
47,000 acres 47,000 acres just say it a couple of times and if your still calm as before then you are still being fooled by the old guard and the left overs from the big boys bedtirito days ! !

we voters have had it with the coruption in every damm corner of cameron county ! !

47,000 acres 47,000 acres 47,000 acres and no first class marinas for the voters to use and enjoy.

47,000 acres 47,000 acres and no fishing except if you got the connections with the port directors, the staff and gavito ! !

47,000 acres 47,000 acres and no boat races, no water recreation, flat land, camping, natural trails,
public bird or game hunting ! !

But you can lease from the port about 1000 acres for about $ 1000 per year to run goats, cattle and dope if you got connections with the port directors, the staff and gavito ! !

47,000 acres ! ! 47,000 acres ! !

Cameron County raises bridge tolls again, driving ever more cargos to Tampico and Laredo. Excessive Cameron County bridge tolls against our Mexican trucks is destroying local jobs.

Raise real estate taxes if you must Carlos, but leave our job creating Mexican truckers alone.

47,000 acres and a ship channel are probably worth a billion dollars. Why do they charge taxes anyway?

Ideas for the Port Commissioners.

1. fishing pier next to Port channel with plenty of parking and restrooms, with a shop with fishing supplies and rentals of fishing rods, and bait. Brownsville residents enter free.

2. 10 story High Rise next to Port Channel with affordable hotel rooms or condominiums for sale for folks that want to live near seawater with out the excessive property taxes that continue to rise yearly at island and PI. With boat ramps for ddep sea vessels and bay boats.

3. Off road vehicle facility for mud racers, three wheel terrain vehicles which I believe are outlawed and the four wheel ATVS so that groups can have events with spectator stands, whic can serve as a concert event with famous entertainers performing seasonally under the awesome stars and moon sky that is incredible here in South Texas. Imagine, a outdoor facility after Amfels as one travels East on Highway 48 towards PI with spectator sitting area to the right of Hwy 48 facing South so to see events with the Infamous Port Channel as a background so all could see the moon and stars lighting up the water of the channel and seeing the SPI skyline to the East and the Brownsville Skyling to the West. Citizens, use these thoughts for the future of the area. People would severely enjoy it. However, Stupidity reigns in our area and elected officials are arrogant and want all the credit. Either change and follow or the trash will inherit the area and the ground. As one travels East towards Port Arthur, Texas after Beoumont, Texas, as major facility was erected and is successful, however it would not match the situation like I have depicted. Critical people that want to attack my idea will come forward like cowards and sign anonymous. These kind of blogger commenters come straight from the devil's den. Shame on those jerks.

Hey you idiot port directors, staff members and shit head workers who do the work for the director !

Stop the same same madness and listen to the common sense simple stupid suggestions from the voters or we will vote your ass out of OFFICE ! !

Oh oh we can't because of Federal regulations on the 47,000 acres ! !

Well shot head, big boy bestirito in the 90's got a waiver got a permit from congress / washington to EXCLUDE EXCLUDE EXCLUDE the 47,000 acres yea the 47,000 acres from Federal oversite ! !

So shut the fuk up and give us access to the 47,000 acres give the voters / the public FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE FREE access to the 47,000 acres ! !

Get the hell out of the way and hire as consultants, as special workers the people of Brownsville and Port Islabel to do the ideas of the free parks, free marinas, free fishing, free camping, free use of the 47,000 acres until concerts, trails and other money making ideas can be done ! ! !

Fuk you with the consultants from Dallas, Houston, other ports, your cousin from kansas, gavitos in laws attorneys, cowans new contacts from the ports in alaska, or reed's friends from arizona and florida ! !

Give the fuking jobs to us or we will see changes next elections ! !
