CHAMBER, PORT HOST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE


On Thursday, October 20, 2011, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Brownsville will bring together a unique gathering of international trade logistics representatives and government officials from the United States and Mexico to discuss and showcase Brownsville/Matamoros as a first-class Port of Entry.

Titled "Celebrating 150 years of Trade-Brownsville/Matamoros International Logistics Conference," the event will be held at the Brownsville Event Center located at 1 Events Center Drive from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM with an international logistics business expo to follow and tour of the Port of Brownsville on Friday, October 21, 2011.

Brownsville/Matamoros is promoted as the fastest port of entry and most historic trade corridor between U.S. and Mexico. The strategic advantages of Brownsville and Matamoros as a port of entry include six modes of transportation, an overweight truck corridor, more than 500 international transportation companies, 35 U.S. licensed customs brokers, 3.5 million square feet of warehouse space, one of three international rail road crossings in Texas, and the only port of entry with foreign trade zones located at the airport, seaport and industrial park areas.

It is also the end, or the beginning, of the USA's 25,000 mile inland waterway system, via the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.

That is one of the most important assets we have here. Amoung many other benefits, our intracoastal waterway helps keep the price of gasoline at one of the lowest levels in the country.
