Dr. Robert Robles might as well be Buzz Lightyear traveling in a parallel universe.
Speaking on the first day that Texas Southmost College welcomed new president Lily Tercero to take over the helm of the emasculated community college district, Robels said he was looking forward to partner with the University of Texas at Brownsville under President Juliet Garcia to enhance educational opportunities for local students.
Robles, who sometimes forgets that he is a TSC trustees, said at the UT System’s Vista Summit, which took place on campus Oct. 5-6, that he looked forward to the two institutions doing for the region what the UTB-TSC partnership was doing all along – cooperating to accomplish a greater goal.“I’m looking forward to working with (Tercero) to try to begin plans to start working together with UT,” Robles said. “I’m not looking forward to starting all over again, but ni modo, we still have to do it.”

Did he forget that it's almost a year to the day that a majority of his colleagues on the board said "thanks, but no thanks" and voted to separate the college district from the voracious UT System that has drained this community of an estimated $1 billion over the last 20 years?
Has he forgotten that he was supportive of Garcia's partnership administration plans to dissolve the district, hand over $200 million in community college district assets over to the UT System as a "gift," and leave local taxpayers stuck with almost $120 million in bond debt?
Has he forgotten that a university-paid renegade Oblate actually threatened one of the people's representatives on the board with personal and professional destruction behind the protection of the Garcia administration and the priest collar?
Has he forgotten that that same priest – a Garcia favorite – actually led a group of protesters to the law offices of the trustee and chanted for his resignation? It was probably a good thing that it was daylight, otherwise the torches and the hoods of the Inquisition would have come out.
He, instead, is proposing we sidle up to the same UT System that has welched (sorry, no insult to the good Welsh people) on TSC on its rental agreement to the tune of $10 million since 1994 and has refused to pay up, annual transfers from TSC to UTB of $40 million notwithstanding.

Juanito, did you forget that the vote last year was not to separate? The vote to separate first took place in Austin, not in Brownsville. Come on man, as the chosen stenographer of TSC and Adela Garza you should at least get that talking point right.
"Little" Bobby Robles has clearly demonstrated, by his actions and his words, that he is a muse for Juliet Garcia and her "Committee"...a local group of elitists who think they, and only they, should control local power. Robles may be a heart specialist, but I don't think he has a heart himself. Let's hope he is replaced soon on the TSC Board....he doesn't believe in the need for a Community College. It isn't over yet, not until 2015. We must keep a vigilant watch on the upcoming TSC Board of Trustee elections. The new trustees must share the same mindset with the current majority. Maintaining local ownership of our community college and ensuring that education and student welfare are first and foremost in Dr. Tercero's agenda is a definite for the success of TSC .
Keep your eagle eyes sharp and your fingers flying. Our children deserve the best we can give them. It takes a village.

Dr. Robles has become an elitist and wants to make his nest with others of his ilk here in Brownsville. He is a good fit with the egos of Juliet Garcia and her "Committee". Robles has become successful as a cardiologist, but he has forgotten his roots. He has sucked up to the elitists in this community....all of whom have exploited the local citizens.
Aside from what has already been stated, TSC and BISD
need to collaborate on developing a plan to develop the basic skills that high school graduates require to be successful in college. Without college ready students, TSC will waste the precious commodity that it is in remedial education. Our children deserve better.
In 20 years my granddaughter will be asking me why I didn't do something if I knew there was a problem.
