How many ways can the cheezmosos be told that Brownsville Independent School District Asst. Superintendent for Human Resources Sylvia Atkinson will not (repeat) will not be tapped to be the district's superintendent?
"It would be political suicide if the current board chose Sylvia," said a source close to the board. "With the brouhaha that erupted when her brother Charlie was chosen as a coach at Faulk on an alternative certification program, do you really think that the majority of the board is going to bite again?"
While many on the board do not doubt the woman's skills, they say that she also presents a danger to their efforts to stabilize the district after the disarray that was left when the former board majority (Rick Zayas, Ruben Cortez, Rolando Aguilar and Joe Colunga sometimes joined by Minerva Peña) gutted the BISD's finances and left a trail of downgraded bonds ($173.5 million now rated "negative"), their cronies and their friends' relatives in well-paid positions, and the pockets of local contractors and architects well lined.
Instead, what the board is looking for now is to stabilize the district after the turmoil left by the former trustees and their machine still entrenched in the district.
"Many people have not come to terms with the idea that the old political machine at BISD accustomed as they were to patronage and favoritism to get at some of the $500 million budget is out the window," said an administrator. "The days when you could kiss up to Mr. B, or Joe rod are gone. Now you have to perform or else Carl (Montoya) may be looking hard at you."
Apparently, Colunga still hasn't gotten the message either. He still thinks that by including an item on the agenda to replace board chair Catalina Presas-Garcia it will be an automatic home run. But unless Enrique Escobedo turns on his longtime ally, it is doubtful the other trustees will follow his lead. After all, when Colunga was on the majority, he had no compunction about showing his disdain for Escobedo, Presas-Garcia and Peña, although Minerva has been listening to sweet nothings from Aguilar, Colunga, and even former trustee Zayas, who continues to use his guile to poison the well every chance he gets.
"Sylvia is not going to be the new superintendent," said the administrator. "Montoya might have a good chance of staying on as permanent super based on his performance so far. About the only ones crying foul are those who were allied to the old board and super."

Don't put it past this board to order up a case of "suicide". They see themselves as exempt from responsibility and expect special favors for wasting our tax dollars...so they may defy the "suicide by decision" threat. They are so busy with their on personal political agendas that the students of BISD are the losers. As long as they have administrators who are ball-less and kiss ass to avoid losing their job...we have a problem. No moral courage from anyone in BISD.
What is up with this Carl Montoya character? I mean "Carl"? LOL! What up with the red wig? He looks like a white boy wannabe. Something much akin to that Sandusky pederast currently in the news.
Rudolpho.
Poor Carl, the day he dcides NOT TO FOLLOW cata's orders he's out.
I feel sorry for him!!!

Whoa!!! I'd keep my children away from that boy. Looks like Hanoi Jane.
I wonder how long this board puppet will last as B.I.S.D.'s supt. before he is fired or decides he no longer wants the position. Brownsville voter's in case you didnt know, several years back the Senate passed a law that every time a district bought out thier supt contract before it was completed the district would be penalized ( n yes i mean penalized financially) for doing such thing. BISD has become a joke. What a shame to our students who attend BISD. At least we know that the board is not putting "Children First" as is the slogan that just about all board members use during campaign. They should change it to "My Pocket First" Bola de ratas.
Sylvia doesn't want to be Superintendent, she controls everything from HR, including Montoya.
Sylvia is not in control from HR. Dr. Montoya often leaves Smiley in charge when he's gone. No disrespect, but even Berta Pena gets the tap before Sylvia. Although some say differently, it's just the way it is.
I love the Nov 16 @ 3:54pm post!!
Sooooooo true....My pockets first...lol
It is amazing how all of these highly paid admistrators cower to this ex bisd clerk and secretary. I am still hopefull that Carl has been playing along and as soon as he gets his two year contract he will put his foot down and run the district like I know he can! Remember, the board will be changing before his first year is up, so once he signs on the dotted line in twenty or so days; he no longer has to kiss any smelly ass! I could be wrong, it could be peaches, it could be lunch meat?
ALL of those no good for nothing ratas. stealing teachers money. and a freaking raise for Sylvia A.
look into that people.
Las ratas son tu y tus amigos. Ratas y matones.
