We ran into Letty Perez-Garzoria, candidate for City of Brownsville District 4 who is challenging incumbent John Villarreal in the May elections.
But, unlike those who have counted her out of the running even before the campaign begun, Perez-Garzoria is showing anything but concession in this race. When we spoke to her she had just finished registering city residents to vote in the election. And, to demonstrate that she was unafraid to tread in the self-granted domain of Ernie and Norma Hernandez bastion – the BHA's High Rise on St. Charles – she said she had already been there to speak with residents.
"The politiqueras have them believing that if they vote for anyone else other than the candidates that the Herandezes want, they will lose their federal assistance," Perez-Garzoria said. "It is the same old politics of class entitlement and poverty that used to be used by Ray Roman in the past."
Perez-Garzoria is not shy about taking the silent Villarreal to task for doing and saying nothing as Mayor Martinez runs roughshod over the rest of the city commissioners and pushes forward the United Brownsville and UTBrownsville agenda at the expense of the city residents. She reserved her umbrage for the two commissioners running for reelection, Rose Gowen and Villarreal.
"We need people who will stand up for the taxpayers! Why? When did we elect leaders to go into the real estate business favoring all his (Tony) compadres? These two commissioners have been in lockstep with Martinez from the get go," she said.
"Who are the people on the city commission who seek re-election? The Tonyites ? Gowen and Villarreal ?? We don't need titeres (puppets). We need people who will stand up for the taxpayers! Why?"
She reserved special criticism for Villarreal who has been a cheerleader for Martinez's cozying up to millionaire Elon Musk of SpaceX as he seeks to squeeze even more millions in "incentives" from Brownsville, the BEDC, and the State of Texas in his bidding war with Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico.
"District 4 has it all," she said. "It has all the history, all the pioneer factor, all the social diversity , not to mention the amazing Texas Southmost Community College System since 1926 ( an Arnulfo Oliveira brainchild) , later enlarging it's capacities to include the U.T. System!"
"Why take away from this? Pick any of District 4's components and you will be in touch with her cultural , her historic beginnings, and the genuine warmth and hospitality of her good people! Why is Villarreal so concerned about giving the money from our poor community to space venture millionaires while our communities in District 4 fall to blight and are deteriorating before our very eyes? Ask John Villarreal: What on Earth have you done?"

The ones and only ones corrupt are Enrique Escobedo and Otis Powers, they were both on a hunting trip last weekend with Joe Salazar the insurance guy and the new Johnny Cavazos.
Hear Escobedo is having a fundraiser on Tuesday at Cobbleheads and it's probably funded by Salazar. Go by and check it out.

The same as Melissa Zamora. The only good thing she ever did for her district is get rid of Atkinson. Without a political machine (politiqueras, buying of votes, etc.) none of these people would ever win a single sincere vote.

They visit during off election years also and bring donuts or other food. They talk and visit with them and establish a friendship making these people believe they care for them. So when the time comes to ask them for something, these folks are willing to help. If any politician wants to get past this down there, they need to work as hard as politiqueras do. Johnny Boy is easy on the eyes as my gay friend salivates, but other than that he has been worthless riding the coat tails of the Tony Martinez Kingdom and his perversion of defending the Hernandez crooks. Hmmm...the reading comprehension of this crowd is sometimes disturbing. I was not defending politiqueras. I was simply pointing out that if a politician thinks he or see is going to win these "viejitos" over, it's going to take more than one trip to the home. Politiqueras, which are a DISEASE to the system, have been winning "viejitos" over for years. I hope this is clearer.
Letty "La Pelona" is a career candidate just like Uresti and Miller who should retire and go live with the old folks on Saint Charles because that's pretty much where they have been living since their last campaigns. They are nuts and anyone who takes them seriously has probably got a screw or two loose as well. Uresti has been fired from all his jobs, including his last one at BISD, and now is only qualified to work at car washes. Garzoria bandwagoned with other nuts to frivolously sue the city of Brownsville and cost the taxpayers thousands in a case that did not hold water yet she wants to be the taxpayers' voice. Aside from Erin serving as John's treasurer, what political ties do you find John has with Ernie Hernandez? What political favors has John done for Ernie? None that I can think of or prove. You are trying to ride on a wave that doesn't have any substance because John has proven to be an independent vote on the commission. And as far as the politiqueras go, call the elections department and see just how many mail-in votes Letty got last time. More than John and his opponent Zavaleta who "pledged" to CACA, I mean, CAVA that he was going to stay away from them. Letty goes to my church here in West Brownsville and pobrecita, everyone here thinks she is safada. I would still consider voting for her but she is good friends with Pat Ahumada. If her platform consisted of something else other than attacking her opponent, she might have a chance. Either way, I don't appreciate that she comes to church just to campaign. This is a place of worship, not mudslinging.

Are you kidding me? Why on earth is this lady running? She was Pat Ahumada's biggest supporter and even ran on his slate last time when she ran At-Large. Pat the Rat needed his puppets in there because he had no control and now the fire fighters recruited her since they could not manipulate the current commission. Letty tries too hard to sound smart. She just talks in circles to confuse people and try to make them think she is smarter than them but in reality she does not make any sense, ala Estela Chavez-Vasquez. The other day she spoke at my daughter's kickball game and made a complete fool of herself trying to use big words that were completely out of context. And as if it couldn't get worse, she was Yolanda Begum's biggest paid politiquera next to Rigo Bocanegra who is still promising Begum a JP spot. Everyone knows Yolanda would go to the Compass Bank on Elizabeth and pay Letty in the parking lot but you'll never find that in her campaign finance report. Now Begum is back to endrose her politiquera as if she has any political weight or importance to be offering endorsements. Go find another husband to live off of, lady.
Letty lives on East Park St and I live right behind her on Garden St. The constant stench of marijuana is always coming over. I cannot see if it is her or her equally crazy daughter but I know it is coming from there. I would not doubt it if Letty smokes. The people who come over to her house all look like crazy hippies. Do elected officials get drug tested? If not, they should.
