By EMMA PEREZ-TREVINO, The Brownsville HeraldThe Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority on Wednesday hired Cameron County Administrator Pete Sepulveda Jr. as its full-time executive director, but a transition period will follow.
It could be from 30 days up to one year when Sepulveda, who has been at the administrative helm of the CCMRA since its inception in 2004 on a part time basis, transitions to the $18,750 per month job that will bring him $225,000 a year."
Well, that sure has been a long "30 days up to one year" since the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority announced that Cameron County Administrator Pete Sepulveda was going to be its full time director.
And personnel reviews have come and gone at the county's commissioners court about his assistant David Garcia questioning his double dipping as Sepulveda's administrative assistant with nary a change in what everyone involved in county government says is an unacceptable practice of having them paid by both entities at the same time.
Meanwhile, Garcia has been taken under the wing of his benefactor Pct. 3 Commissioner David Garza and spends half of his time traveling to Austin and elsewhere and still drawing pay from at least four other county departments while he's out of town.
Shades of Carlos Cisneros!
Anywhere else this would constitute a scandal would call for emergency meetings to stop the double-, triple- and quadruple-dipping by these two, but we're in Cameron County and apparently we do things differently here.
Where else would a the county and an RMA announce that an employee had been hired by another entity, give a deadline to terminate the transition, and then continue the practice? Would you take those people seriously?
For the uninitiated, here's a breakdown of the places of "employment" that these two get compensated for:
For Sepulveda:
County Airport Manager: $5,602
Planning and Inspection: $53,980
Los Indios Bridge: $19,391
Gateway Bridge: $14,151
Total (county) $141,580
Reg. Mob. Auth.: $75,00
Total (Salary): $216,580
30 percent benefits (est.): $73,190
(Est. Grand total): $288,770
Planning and Inspection (asst.): $56,089
Veterans Bridge (Assistant): $16,222
Los Indios Bridge (Asst.): $16,222
Gateway Bridge (Asst.): $17,121
Total (County) $105,654
Reg. Mob. Auth.: $75,000
Total (Salary) $180,654
30 percent benefits (est.): $60,210
(Est. Grand Total): $240,864
Each one of these "irreplaceable" employees make more than all four county commissioners combined. How long will the CCRMA and Cameron County continue the duo's gravy train?

The powers that be in Cameron County remain part of the corruption of the Democratic Party and are not likely to make any changes in response to blogs as long as the Herald continues to ignore corruption and payouts/double dipping as described here. The Herald is a whore to the powers that be and the existing corruption. Not likely to take any journalistic initiatives, especially if it might upset an advertiser (which includes all governments, UTB, PUB). As long as the Herald is without journalistic huevos...it surely fits into the culture of greed and self-promotion that the politicians (Democrats) have established here.
Comment2 3:12: Dude leave Gus alone: What he did is what financal advisors call great estate planning something you have no clue about. It is completly legal to retire and get rehired. Just like our Governor Rick Perry, who is also double dipping. Kudos to Gus.
These pieces of EXCREMENT are screwing this county big time and you low information dumbocRATS should be protesting in droves @ the meetings like how you all protest LEGALIZED MURDER, MT, ETC,,, que gente tan PENDEJA. LOL LOL LOL
It will continue until the benefit to those that know what is going on diminishes, then they will put a stop to it.
All these jobs they are getting paid for could each be done by other professional individuals. This is one reason unemployment remains high in this area. At the county, city, and ISDs buffoons like these two are sucking up every morsel in the hopes of keeping the grift amongst the top dogs in the corrupt political structure under wraps. Open up these jobs to the public...or are you afraid of whistle blowers?
It would be the End of the world if these two high paid clowns are dismissed, and i am sure many at the top level govt of the cameron county cant afford for either one of these two jokers to go, so they will not be dismissed no matter what the public aka taxpayers say, dc
to the July 16, 6:30 posting. I assume you are including that clueless Republican that holds the County Judge seat in the mix with those Democrats that as you say are corrupt. Si or No?
