DOES LARD MOLD? IF IT DOESN'T, WHAT IS GOING ON?

By Juan Montoya
Something just isn't adding up.
Why is it that the only photos featured by Ryan Wolf on his Food 4 Thought feature on CHannel Four News only deal with eateries in mom-an-pop restaurants and panaderias that have been visited by his Cheezmeh Food Patrol and strong-armed to buy "protection" ads?
And in the case of the Capistran Panaderia in Southmost, when Wolf arrived with the incriminating pictures sent to him by the Cheezmeh Goon Squad he found it closed and insinuated that it had been closed due to the incriminating pictures sent to him to buttress and old Brownsville Health Department inspector's report?
Did he know that the group had warned the new owner who was closed because he was remodeling that he would have to "pay the consequences" of not paying them for the "protection?"
Just what kind of a scam is going on here and why is this whiny would-be muckraker in cahoots with this bunch? Does he know that they are using the power of the broadcast media for their own ends?
Surely Wolf is more media-savvy than that.
A reader further casts doubts on the picture Wolf published alleging that mold was growing on some lard stored in yet another Brownsville bakery targeted by this bunch.
The poster says:
"Hey rrunrrun:
I just read your article on Ryan Wolf & Cheezmeh & have suspected the same about Ryan Wolf for some time. I believe he made a huge mistake this time. He posted a pic of the panaderia w/ molding lard, but I did some research & couldn't find anything to confirm that lard molds at all. I also checked the website for the "lard" & they don't carry lard as a product or at least the search failed to produce any result for lard. Is it possible Wolf or an accomplice picked up the packaging & placed it on top of some lard?"
We found the same from local gadfly and Cameron County DA outreach staff member Zeke Silva. When he questioned Wolf on his FB page, the Food 4 Though maven asserted that the city inspectors sent him the pictures. Now Silva is going to the city to see whether there is a record that he, in fact, did request the information or that the inspectors sent him the photos.
Stay tuned. Something is rotten in Browntown. Keep it Clean!

Good job! Do the research and do the report.

Unfortunately when you visit eateries to see what has been done to clean it up, you focus on the bad inspection and give little attention to the re-inspection. Your "Dirty Dining" segment and your trilling of "R's" for "Roaches" is one sided and an ineffective media attack on the community. Why don't you ever do a segment on corruption..."Dirty Politics"? Ryan Wolf, you use the poor to avoid taking on the powerful. You are not a journalist you are just a talking head....and not a very attractive one at that.
