By Juan Montoya
Remember the controversy and turmoil unleashed after former Brownsville Independent School District Special Needs Director Art Rendon complained and reported to law enforcement authorities that the due-process hearings ere being used by some attorneys and "consultants" as personal ATM machines to milk the district with legal fees?
That ended up with three lawsuits in state and federal courts that eventually cost the district $100,000s in back pay, awards and restitution of employment for the three plaintiffs involved.
Wouldn't you like to hear how we're faring now? For example, after those due-process complaints dried to a trickle, did you know that we're hearing reports on at least eight of them at this month's meeting?
There is an item on the agenda that asks the administration to give the board information on all pending due process hearings including the expense and attorneys' fees. Wouldn't you like to hear how that's going?
How about pay adjustments for top administrators? We always hear complaints about the BISD being top-heavy with administrators while teachers struggle to get materials for their classrooms. Wouldn't you like tohear how we fare now on that subject?
Or how about the BISD's personnel compensation and position control for its personnel? Wouldn't you like to hear how we pay our staff and how we place them?
And how about the BISD policy regarding the visits of vendors on district campuses prior to bid advertisement? Wouldn't you like to know if there is no hanky-panky going on between vendors of products and BISD personnel before bids are let out for the items they sell?
And how is the BISD doing in adhering to Texas Education law with its policies and procedures? Care to hear about that?
Well, if you think these are matters of public interest, you better get your No-Doz pills ready because the powers-that-be have placed these important issues at the very end of the agenda for today's meeting at the BISD main office on Price road.
They are actually 103-108 of 115 items on tonight's meetings.
The placement of these items by one trustee – Catalina Presas-Garcia – have raised protests from some board members and administrators because the items, under "Conference Presentations," are usually placed at the top of the items on the agenda.
So why is it that board president Enrique Escobedo has seen fit to place them at the tail end of the meeting? Could it be so that the public will be so weary at the length of the meeting that no one will learn what the status of those issues is and things can go on as they are?
These and other questions have led trustee Lucy Longoria to place an item to reorganize the board and name a new president and other officers.
Traditionally, the president of the board serves for one year. In fact, Esobedo pointed that out when he moved to remove Presas-Garcia as president. Guess what? Escobedo has already served for more than two years as president. If local board policy is followed, he should have given up the position more than a year ago.
It all depends on whether the majority of the trustees will adhere to their own rules or whether they will disregard them and move on with the same leadership that seems content to cherry-pick issues irregardless of the importance of the pressing problems facing the BISD.
So get those No-Doz and bear it to the bitter end. We might learn something the majority of the BISD board don't want us to know.

Rey Guevara says, irregardless is not a word. Se dice, regardless.
The consultant milking the ATM machine was actually hired by Rendon. Rumor has it that it is the same individual that Lucy supported for employment by the district at the time that the board's attorney had started an investigation.
Why does Boobie always write about what you post Montoya? Must be penis envy.

Poor guy. He should just shut it down. For good, this time.
Is it a rumor or is this Minerva or Salazar's sister, how else would you know the attorney started an investigation on a consultant?
Because someone has to tell the truth and Juanio does not know how!
The one milking the district is Baltazar Salazar and the special ed administrator look at all the Due Process settlements they had on last nights agenda. This raises a red flag, could this all be premeditated to intentionally deny these students services in order for the attorneys to make money and they split the piece of the pie? Really worth looking into this Juan.
Is that michelle obama pic??? LMAO LMAO LMAO
