WITH HERNANDEZ INDICTMENT, DOMINGUEZ NUMBERS SOAR

By Juan Montoya
Poll numbers before and after Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner Ernie Hernandez was indicted for official misconduct show that the incumbent has taken a hit from which it is doubtful he will recover.
In contrast, the fortunes of challenger Alex Dominguez have soared according to a poll of 500 precinct voters.
And on one poll performed February 5 by Dann Rivera's Victory data indicates that while Dominguez led Hernandez 29 to 21 percent in January, they now stand at 43 percent for Dominguez and only eight percent of those responding willing to throw their vote toward Hernandez.
In fact, every association that endorsed a candidate for for Commissioner Precinct 2 supported Dominguez That includes the firefighters, the sheriff’s association, the postal workers, teachers, nurses, and longshoremen.
In forums across the precinct, Dominguez has far4ed well if reaction from the audiences is any measure of potential political support.
Hernandez attended a Sheriff’s Association meeting, the Winterhaven Forum, and the Cameron County  Democratic Party Forum. He did not attend the Brownsville Police Officer Association possibly because he was still in custody at the sheriff’s office.
Jerry Linan, another challenger, has only attended the Cameron County Democratic Party Forum.
Candidate Leonel Lopez attended the Brownsville Police Officer Association forum, the Winterhaven Forum, the CC Democratic Party Forum, and showed up late to Sheriff’s Association meeting.
Dominguez attended the Brownsville Police Officer Association forum, the Winterhaven Forum, the CC Democratic Party Forum, and the Sheriff’s Association meeting. Only Dominguez received any endorsements.
Hernandez's political propaganda leans heavily on his slogan "25 Years of Promises Kept" and laments that "Being a public servant is not an easy task. The real reward, it states, comes from looking back and seeing all that went from being a thought to becoming reality."
It then goes on to highlight what he claims are his accomplishments as city commissioner such as being a founding member of the charter review committee and bringing Continental Airlines to Brownsville. He even takes credit for establishing single-member districts and building fire stations, police substations, and hints that he might have had something to do with the invention of the Internet (communications). Interesting that there was no code of ethics in the list.
As county commissioner he does the same. He takes credit for the creation of a new JP 2-3 office for Pct. 2. Cameron Park residents might be interested to learn that he single-handedly placed street lighting at the Meadowbrook Subdivision. And activists who were at the trenches in defeating the West Park Tollway might be interested to learn that it was Ernie all along who defeated it. At least he takes credit for it. But that's not all. The sheriff's department might be interested to learn that it was he who secured increased federal funding for prisoners held at the county detention facilities. Who's in charge of the jails anyway, Omar?
Voters will probably see through the hype (Recreation of South Padre Island Park Police?) when early voting begins five days from now on February 28. The hauling in of senior citizens from the day cares and the fraudulent mail-in votes that have put Hernandez and his daughter Erin Hernandez Garica over the top before is going to be under close scrutiny this year with state and federal watchdogs assisted by local community groups such as Citizens Against Voter Abuse and Bonnie Emerson's IntelliVotes netted the Hernandezes dogging their every step.
In all his previous elections, it was such vote harvesting that got Hernandez into office. All  good things, we guess, must come to an end sometime.
Hernandez has made a nice living from being a small business owner and multiple stints as a public official. His peccadilloes are too numerous to deal with them here. Linan is a nice guy who : attorney with a degree in economics. Yet, his numbers don't seem to be doing very much compared to Dominguez's showing.
Leonel Lopez: currently a provisional licensee at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Even his campaign literature sounds like an invitation to buy a burial lot and make arrangements for your burial. While many push for jobs and economic developers, Leo seems content to push daisies with his "Be Ready, Be Prepared" slogan. He's a nice guy, too.
If being a nice guy was the only qualifier for the position, Dominguez, attorney who sits on to public service boards would also qualify.
The likelihood of Ernie winning the election is now highly doubtful but still possible that he could get into a runoff with poll leader. And we all know the track record of the Hernandez es in runoff elections. Do we want to risk that?

Leo Lopez is a pawn to his wife and if he is elected Elia Cornejo Lopez will be the guiding force behind Leo. Elia is the driving force behind his campaign and she will be in charge if he is elected. He may not be an attorney, but he is the puppet of an attorney. Leo is not a good choice. Alex has said he will donate part of his salary to charity if elected.....and Alex has been positively engaged in the community....while Leo has been hiding under Elia's robe.

I'm voting for Alex no questions about that

Leo has not held a job in many years, that embalmer bullshit is recent, he is in training, I don't think he even gets a salary, and the other job he got was with the BISD, he got fired because he was a incompetent thief, people please this is the future of our county, you can't generalized as all attorneys are bad or all the embalmers are stupid, Alex is a attorney but his track record is impeccable, he is a good person who really cares, and Leo is someone who his wife desperately want him to get a job
