Even before the May elections for the board of the Texas Southmost College this May, El Rrun Rrun is already calling the outcome in at least two of the races.We predict that Adela Garza, the TSC board Place 1 vice chair will remain on the board. We also predict that Brownsville Independent School District Transportation Administrator Art Rendon will win for Place 2 which is currently being held by Rene Torres.
Torres, we have learned, will not run for his position citing personal reasons.
In Garza's case, no one filed before the Friday 5 p.m. deadline so she will not have an opponent.The only contested race will be between recent Place 3 board appointee Ed Rivera and BISD administrator Juan Jose De Leon.
The TSC policy manual states that trustee elections will be held the second Saturday in May. According to the TSC policy, "Any resident, qualified elector of the College District may have his or her name placed as a candidate on the official ballot for any position to be filled at each regular election by filing a written application, signed by the candidate, with the Secretary of the Board not later than 5 p.m. of: The 71st day before election day, if the election is to be held on any other uniform election date.
This year, the election for the three positions will be held Saturday, May 10.
In Rivera's case, since the TSC trustee terms run for six years, that mean that he will have to run again in two years if he wins this May's contest. Rivera was appointed to replace Dr. Robert Lozano, who resigned from the board.
This might turn out to be a costly proposition for the Place 3 candidates since they will not only have to fund and run a campaign this May, but also in two years when Lozano's term was set to expire.
The little we know about De Leon is that he is the longtime secretary to former BISD Administrator Bertha Peña, the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Sources say that Peña and Sylvia Atkinson, Asst. superintendent for support services, picked up the filing package at the college for De Leon.
"De Leon has been Betha Peña's personal secretary for more than 20 years," said a BISD source. Peña and Atkinson are trying to move in on the TSC board like they moved in at BISD."
The scenario many people believe for the De Leon candidacy is that if he is successful, he will move to hire Atkinson as TSC President in the future. However, many believe that De Leon's chances of beating Rivera are slim to none.
"This is a gambit by that little group to pave the way for Sylvia to take over TSC," they assert.

They have compadrismo so far up their asses that it's not even funny. So many "directors" with very few employees to supervise, posting wanted ads all over the place and quietly pulling them without hiring a single individual. And the people who work for them are underpaid well below the cost of living (and I thought Julieta's slaves had it bad) and over-worked.
But of course the so called voice of justice from this illustrious website never talk bad about their people because "It's only bad when someone else does it".
