For weeks now we 've been promised a scoop into a probe conducted by Luis Saenz's Cameron County District Attorney's Office into a scandal involving cheating in the taking of the Civil Service exams by Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies.
Well, it turns out that the breathless tantalizing going on in other would-be investigative blogs promising their readers the skinny leaves much to be desired.In a nutshell, what is happening is this:
For the past few years – we hear it dates back to as far back as 2010 and 2011 – some clever lads over at the Sheriff's Dept. figured out that if they took a photo of the Civil Service exam administered to deputies, they could then allow their buddies to study beforehand and ace the test.
So far, five deputies have been implicated in the burgeoning scandal and our sources tell us that they are "being squeezed" to find out if more people are involved and how far back. The deputies, according to our sources, have already been suspended.
On Thursday, Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos confirmed that the number of deputies implicated had grown to eight.
This they did, we hear, for the least four years starting in 2010.
Robert Lopez, the former director of the Cameron County Human Resources Dept., was himself got caught up in the turmoil involving the illegal hiring of Pct. 2 Commissioner Ernie Hernandez's brother-in-law Roberto Cadriel when testimony in the commissioner's administrative assistant's trial showed that someone had been told to take the test for him and later, that he was provided with the answers.
That came as the new HR director Arnold Flores had a suggestion before the commissioners court that recommended a restructuring of the department. Among some of the suggestions was that a clerk be hired to deal exclusively with the Civil Service applicants.
Among some of the new rules that were included in Flores' recommendation was one which gave the authority to the clerk to prohibit the introduction of cell phones or other electronic devices (cameras, for example) into the testing area.
It should be noted here that neither the sheriff or anyone associated with the department has a role in administering the civil service exam and that they are merely provided with the results by the HR Dept. so they can select the applicants.
So far, Saenz has refused to comment on the progress of the investigation, although we hear that a statement on the matter will be forthcoming from the sheriff's department.

It should be Sheriff Omar Lucio investigating or providing oversight for his office. Omar is a stupid man, loyal to the Dumbokratic Party of old. He has clearly indicated that money given to his campaign is returned in "special favors". Luis Saenz is not yet ready to take on Lucio and his "political friends". If Saenz investigated or announce the results of an investigation it would hurt the Dumbokratic slate of candidates proposed by Gilberto Hinojosa, who hates that his county has a Republican County Judge. Saenz will continue to protect Hinojosa and the corruption for which he stands.

Sheriff Lucio should retire. He is 82, and he does not know what is going on in his head, much less his department. To say that the sheriff is old is an understatement. He was rumored seen having an orgasm, and instead of semen, he puffed out powdered milk....now that is old!

A Mercedes man remains jailed following his arrest for allegedly breaking into a house on Frances Street -- and taking a seat next to a woman who lives there while she slept. Frances Street and the area around the City Cemetery has experienced a spike in burglaries since late last year, particularly in occupied houses. The woman in Friday's break-in recognized Alfredo Mireles, 36, as a "vagrant" she had previously seen in the neighborhood, according to a police report. Mireles, whom jail records say is a cook, is charged with felony burglary of an occupied dwelling and felony grand theft for allegedly stealing a Samsung cell phone while inside the house. His bond is $30,000, but there's also a hold on him from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The police report from Officer Frank Mancha says that when the woman woke up just before 7 a.m. and saw Mireles, she grabbed a handheld vacuum cleaner and beat him with it. "She was sleeping in her bedroom with her 6-year-old son," Mancha wrote. "She was unsure why she woke up, but when she did, she noticed a man seated in the chair next to her bed. She was in fear for her life and grabbed the first thing she could find in order to defend herself." Mireles ran out of the house when confronted, according to Mancha's report, and was spotted near the Valero gas station at Truman Avenue and White Street about two blocks away. The woman told police she had left both her front and back doors open for the breeze, according to reports.
They have already commenced terminations of several deputies. The true disgraceful reality of this entire ordeal is that the civil service exam was not properly proctored and the exam is old and not updated. It makes you wonder how many deputies over the years have actually cheated. It's obviously unfortunate that a handful of deputies were actually caught this time. Some deputies didn't actually cheat but because they were involved they were terminated indefinitely. These are good honorable deputies in which the sheriff's invested time and money and have now terminated. What's even more disturbing is that these deputies were not read their garrity warnings, hence, violating their 5th Amendment rights. How many more deputies will Sheriff Lucio terminate?

THERE WAS A WRITTEN TESTING PROCESS BACK THEN BUT IF YOU KNEW SOMEONE ON THE INSIDE...THE ANSWERS WERE GIVEN TO YOU SO YOU COULD PASS THE TEST. THE TEST WAS VERY DIFFCULT FOR A PURPOSE SO TO WEED OUT AS MANY AS YOU CAN...EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO SCORED VERY VERY HIGH WITHOUT INSIDE HELP AND... THOSE WHO PASSED THAT WERE GIVEN THE ANSWERS. Who are the sheriff deputies that got caught cheating on the civil service test? Give up their names. How far back does this go? How many present officer cheated in the past? What a disappointment to the people that lookup to these sheriff deputies.

When Joe Rivera takes over as County Judge all this mess will be done and over with, he will strengthen things out and provide enough $$$ for enough staff to help in the human resources department instead of piling too much work on the staff that is currently there, from my understanding people are working two positions for the pay of one position
