LONGTIME POLITICAL FIGURE EVELON DALE DEAD

News has reached us that longtime Cameron County political elected official and community activist Evelon Dale died yesterday after suffering a massive heart attack.
Dale, who served as the first female commissioner on the Brownsville Navigation District and was also active in managing various Democratic Party candidates, was said to have been involved in a minor traffic accident just before succumbing to the cardiac arrest. Apparently, the accident came about as a result of her passing out and bumping a truck ahead of her. Ironically, it belonged to a classmate of hers who she had not seen in more than 30 years and who coincidentally shared her birthday.
In 1996 nshe was recognized for her work at the Good Neighbor Settlement House, La Esperanza Home for Boys and Girls and the Good Samaritan Center.
"So many people in this town have become like family to me," Dale told an interviewer then. "I am happiest when I am helping someone."
Because of her dedicated efforts, Dale was named "Woman of the Year" by the Local Active Women's (LAW) Association.
Funeral arrangements are pending. She leaves behind a daughter.
