A group of school bus drivers who thronged to the district's main office today
demanding to meet with Brownsville Independent school District Superintendent Esperanza Zendejas and present her with a list of labor demands were thwarted when she refused to meet with them.
Sources at the main office said the drivers were seeking a face-to-face meet with Zendejas as they have done in the past without success.
During a recent meeting, more than 200 drivers and bus monitors signed a petition demanding that:
1. All Bus Drivers and Monitors be given a $1 raise in their salary.
2. All Bus Drivers and Monitors should be considered full-time and given 40 hours weekly.
3. All Bus Drivers and monitors should be changed from a level six classification from the level 4 which they have now.
The drivers did not say what actions they would take if their demands were not met. Since the school year will for all practical purposes be over Friday, can we expect the "yellow flu" to strike drivers and monitors on Friday?
Stay tuned.

Why don't the parents of BISD students take to the streets to promote education in BISD? BISD takes care of the teachers...because they vote. Students get far less attention and thus we graduaate kids illiterate in two languages..but they are fed well and are obese.
On the BISD channel you see some old timers talking about how it used to be in the old days in BISD. Some lady comes out and says that kids in the middle schools and high schools would go home for lunch walking and they would return after lunch. Now days even if you live within walking distance of a school (from elementary to high school)you get the bus. I remember in the early 70's I went to Canales elementary because I used to live on Lincoln street. We would WALK to school in the morning. In the afternoon we had traffic patrol that would help us cross International Blvd. because there was no bridge to cross over. If we stayed in school after hours, then we were on our own to cross or our parents had to go pick us up. A lot of kids are already NOT GOING to school so if bus drivers walk off; if not everyone walks off then they double shifts.
I have seen a lot of elementary and high school age kids at the mall all this week during school hours; the elementary school bus that stops for kids in my block has been empty for the past 2 days.
Striking on the last day of school would not have much impact.
Pendejas already starting up huh?
It is unfortunate that the school districts throughout the country do no value faculty and staff in the education system. The transportation system in any school district is vital. As parents we should support their fight…we forget how our children’s lives are in the hands of bus drivers every morning when our students/children are picked up, dropped off, when traveling to a field trip and competitions in and out the state. Does anyone know when was the last time they received a raise? A classification promotion? Etc.
Wait a minute, what about us cafeteria workers? No, no, how about the janitors and the maintenance people?
If the bus drivers get a raise....
Maybe this sounds terrible but isn't that one of the reasons we go to school? In order to earn more money you need an education. And even then it's never enough.
Good luck bus drivers.
Youfucking losers will never get it right. $1 moreand hour. How about a dozen fucking tortillas, you fucking fucked-up fuckers?!!!

Why isn't Valadez posting on taxpayer's dime? He still works for the County. You may not find him at work, but he gets his regular check every 2 weeks deposited to his checking account just like always.
