Fresh from having settled a $750,000 gender discrimination lawsuit with 28 female employees, the Brownsville board of trustees of the Brownsville Independent School District might want to start saving its pennies to pay off what is rapidly shaping up to be the implementation by its administration of a massive age-discrimination policy.
The hiring of Superintendent Esperanza Zendejas by the board apparently also carried with it the directive to Esperanza Hatchet to do away with the "dead wood," that meant long-time administrators who had dedicated their lives to the district and who carried the biggest paychecks.In a bureaucracy, if you demote someone from their position or shunt them off to a meaningless work site, it carries a clear message that you are no longer wanted around.
To her credit, Zanedejas is an equal opportunity offender because there are more than a few Anglo names on her shit list. Maybe they have a better chance at a reverse-age discrimination legal action. And if they are women, then they have the age-sex-reverse trifecta in the courts. As in the Indian caste system, at the very bottom are those considered the untouchables. These individuals perform occupations that are considered unclean and polluting, such as scavenging and skinning dead animals and are considered outcasts. They are not considered to be included in the ranked castes. Below is a partial list of the BISD's untouchables who (if you will notice) are all over 55 years old.

2. Robert Gonzalez was moved without notice or justification from Technology Administrator to Stell Middle School to interim administrator for Counseling Service pending his forced retirement. (Robert had been a high school and middle school principal.)
3. Ana Lerma was transferred without notice or justification from Transportation to the Brownsville Academic Center to forced retirement.
4. Dawn Hall was transferred without notice or justification from being the principal at Early College High School to a dead end curriculum position at the central office.
5. Irene Hernandez from Besteiro Middle School principal to forced retirement.
6. Merrill Hammons was transferred without notice or justification from being the administrator for Counseling Services to a dead end position at Advanced Academics.
7. Mary Tolman, sister-in-law of BISD trustee Otis powers, was moved from her office on Price Road to the Central Administration Building on Palm Blvd.
8. Art Rendon was transferred without notice or justification from being Transportation Dept. administrator to Food Service. Art now has to wear a hairnet for no reason at all. As they used to say at Coach Joe Rodriguez's basketball pickup games: Nothing but Net!
9. Dr. Ed Urde was transferred without notice or justification from being principal of the Brownsville Learning Academy to Asst. Principal; at Pace High School. Dr. Urde is a former middle school principal.
10. Loretta Dickerson was transferred without notice or justification from being the principal at high-performing Hudson Elementary to an assistant principal position. Zendejas' daughter teaches at Hudson and had many run-ins with Dickerson. Rachel Ayala was appointed to replace Dickerson. By coincidence (?), Rachel Ayala is the god daughter of trustee Hector Chirinos. Chirinos was the director of Transportation and left the department in ruins and rife with overtime abuses and favoritism. A forensic audit recommended he be terminated. Parents at Hudson admired Dickerson for her hands-on approach and would often find her directing traffic when they picked up their children from extra-curricular activities at Hudson.
11. Abel Guerra, the BISD board runner was transferred without notification or justification to the insurance department under Kent Wittrmore.
12. Judy Cuellar was transferred without notification or justification from the Insurance Dept. to the Warehouse. The warehouse was formerly run by Kent Wittenmore, now a Zendejas favorite.
13. Margie Flores, chief internal auditor is being pushed out by the appointment of a co-chief internal auditor Robert Ruiz.
14. Olivia Rodriguez was transferred from Human Resources without notification or justification to a low-level position at ...Transportation.
BISD staffers say that Kent Wittenmore's brother Troy is going from bar to bar telling everyone within earshot that he and his brother are running the district and that Zendejas will do anything they tell her.
We would hope that Espy would give the victims on her hit list the option of flipping a quarter as the killer Anton Chigurh (portrayed by Javier Bardem in the film) did and have them "Call it.".

What you describe is someone doing a good job. It is about time someone is in there swinging a hatchet on the dead weight instead of giving do nothings fake job titles with fat salaries. Let her clean up the BISD mess.
No seas mammon, get your facts before you print your statement. There are people that deserve to be move due to the lack of effort and improvement in their job performance. Just because you have a title or job does not mean that you can perform what the job requires. The list of names is full of flankies y mammones that have been milking the district for years.
Zendejas did good. All those individuals needed to have been reassigned long ago. Lots of dead weight among many of those in the list.

I don't know who gives you your information but try to do some research before you post lies. Hudson is no longer a "high performing school." The scores have gone down & based on the accountability ratings that were released on Friday, Hudson only relieved one star out of five possible stars. and stop saying all that babble about Chirinos & Rachel Ayala's daughters. They earned their positions through hard work. And for the record, Rachel is not his goddaughter.
As per administrators contracts, you are subject to reassignment....no explanation needed.
A lot of those were justified. For example: Merrill Hammons was previously the administrator of Advanced Academics. He was moved to counseling despite having ZERO experience in the field. You're really just a shill now for whomever pays you the most money. it's understandable, but pathetic.

Most of the people in the list flipped the coin a long time ago, any nobody had the guts to do what was needed to be done. Zendejas has what nobody has in doing the right thing. The community support her actions in dealing with dead weight and individuals who are not there in the best interest of the children.

After reading the 18 comments, it is obvious that everybody agrees that Zendejas has done the right thing. Everybody knows about these people on the list and they all know that it needed to be done. I personally like the comment about the hairnet. Perhaps the hairnet should be wore over his face to cover all the hair above his lips including the hair in his nose. ESPY has done a GOOD JOB!
Nothing new here. The great majority of these people have been moved before, either to give them another chance or to where they would do the least damage. For instance Art Rendon continues to screw up wherever he goes. Justifiably fired but reinstated by a board majority with sinister alternatives, Art Rendon fit right in. Try to fire him for incompetence and he will find a way to sue and get a nuisance settlement. FYI 2 of the board members who reinstated the idiot are also suing the district. Neither made any significant contribution to BISD and one still sits spewing shit at every opportunity. I applaud Zendejas for trying, but doubt that the board has the balls to support her in the long term.

Interesting. But the biggest example of public funds wasted on dead and possibly buried piece of wood, AKA Martin Arambula, apparently goes untouched. I hope I am wrong and he was not worth writing about. If he is still working at BISD Espy missed this piece of deadwood.

Dr. Z is doing what should have been done when the sit-on-his- you know what Montoya. All suits and firings should have settled when he was here but he did not wear his pantalones well enough. He was a total puppet and did nothing and when the trouble fell on Dr. Z. she was blamed for many things that she inherited. Dale gas, Dr. Z! There IS a lot of dead weight in BISD beginning with Zendejas. Too many old teachers and administrators still on the public tit. While their has always been lots of dead weight at the main office and in the district, Zendejas' actions show she is nothing more than an hatchet woman. Shouldn't the makes leader of a school district be a leader when it comes to EDUCATION? That is a skill she seems to totally lack. Chopping heads is quick and easy, and it makes it seem as if some progress is being made, but the focus of the district should be the education of the STUDENTS. Zendejas didn't have that focus when she was here the first time and it seems nothing has changed.
Demotions are working! Last year that Faulk principal that repeatedly cheated on her work, drove teachers crazy, and stole the husband of a coworker got demoted to the smallest elementary school in Brownsville. After another poor performance there, she opted to quit and move to IDEA Shools!!!! Time to get rid of all of these questionable characters that have been abusing the BISD system.
