WANTED BY TEXAS: MARK SOSSI ON THE RUN SINCE 2012

By Juan Montoya
When we ran the post on City of Brownsville Attorney Mark Sossi zooming around town in a BMW car with expired licence tags and inspection sticker, we never figured that there was anymore to that story than just a high-paid scofflaw living off the public dime.
Well, as they say in this business, sometimes you can't make this stuff up.
Now we hear that not only is Sossi driving that nifty little car illegally since he is not listed as the owner, but that he is also in defiance of the laws of the great State of Texas walking around with three arrest warrants stemming from a similar offense in 2012.
Sossi, who as city attorney and legal counsel for the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation earns some $180,000 a year, has been a wanted man since April 2012 when he was caught by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Harlingen and cited for No Valid Inspection Sticker (12-TR-000227) , Expired Registration (12-TR-000220), and then for Failure to Appear (12-TR-000227) when he didn''t show up in Eloy Cano's JP 5-2 court that April 4.
These offenses carry fines of, respectively, $242.50, 267.50 and 242.50, for a total of 752.50 in fines.
What's more, if he is stopped by law enforcement, he is running the risk of arrest and incarceration until he pays the fines.
In each case, Cano's court docket indicates that Sossi was sent notice on at least four or five occasions to let him know he had a charge pending but the defendant did not answer the letters.
As it is, the Texas Transportation Code states under Acts 2011, 82nd Leg., R.S., Ch. 1094 (S.B.  1386), Sec. 1
(f) A county that has a contract under Subsection (b) may impose an additional fee of $20 to:
(1) a person who fails to pay a fine, fee, or tax to the county by the date on which the fine, fee, or tax is due; or
(2) a person who fails to appear in connection with a complaint, citation, information, or indictment in a court in which a criminal proceeding is pending against the owner.
Now, the DPS and local constables, sheriff's and the Brownsville Police Dept. all have access to the warrants data base. And we know the city commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. In this case, it will be until January 5, 2016 when the city commission meets next.
Will our favorite scofflaw fork over the fines to the court or continue flaunting his omnipotence before the officers of the law into the next year?

Sossi's contempt for the law is a reflection of the current city administration. He feels like Obama; that he can do no wrong. It is a shame that city officials ignore his contemptuous actions; actions undermine justice.

If it had been a citizen of the So Most area the copswould have sent their riot squad and sharp shooters to take him down. Da mayor leading the charge.

I checked the Herald archives back to 2011 and found no mention of this. It seems to be a news worthy item so why is it not in the city's newspaper?

If you have to ask, you must be new to the area. The Brownsville Rag helps the corruption continue by turning a blind eye, and staying silent on lots of issues.........especially when they involve the United Brownsville Cartel ,of which most of our elected officials are proud members of. Don't want gifts for Xmas , just wishing some of those crooks would get busted.
