I'd like to share an experience I had, first of all I'd like to thank every person that ever visited my establishment (WINK'S).
As most of you know I had to close my doors here in Brownsville. We started to get slow in 2014 and that's why instead of closing then, we started a cover charge to see if that would help. It didn't help and financially our ship was taking on too much water, so we abandoned ship, but I had a chance to stay open and save our ship but Mr. (Luis V. ) Saenz wasn't on board.
My buddy out of High School brought it to my attention that he admired my hard work and my character; my giving and helping to our Community. Growing up together he recognized I wasn't given anything so what I had, came from my entire life's work, sweat, blood and tears.He said: "Wink, I have an idea to help you out till you get back on your feet again, I will pay your business mortgage and bring you current with all your bills and you keep doing what your doing, we will be open 7 days a week if you want. I own game rooms all over Texas that are 100 percent in compliance with Texas Law.
I do not have time or want to spend money proving my innocence so talk to Luis Saenz and let's show him what I'm doing so they don't shut us down for nothing. I said no problem. I helped him get elected and had fundraisers here for him. As long as we ain't breaking any laws no reason why he won't agree.
Long story short we had our meetings and he (Saenz) agreed to talk with my buddy's attorneys, he even sent his spy people to gamble and they couldn't find any laws being broken. Without us knowing he sent Channel 5 out there, they in return didn't find any illegal activity going on and they even wrote a great story about the game room saying it was in compliance....great!!!

The D.A. ultimately told us they didn't care how much in compliance we were – they were gonna shut us down regardless because they didn't want MAQUINITAS here in Brownsville...so WINK'S HAD TO CLOSE. I'm not saying vote Masso and let the game rooms begin NO SIR.
I'm saying let's do away with SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT and all the other B.S. that goes on here and gets covered up. The hiding of evidence that will keep and honest man out of jail just to get a conviction...come on people enough is enough.
Not to mention the taking of a lot of moneys (with open hands during his campaign) from gaming establishments with promises to leave them alone as long as they were in compliance and then shutting them down once elected. (without proper investigation) I wasn't asking him to help me bury a body...just help me save my investment...LEGALLY...so as I close my story please take some time out of your busy schedule tomorrow and vote for Carlos Masso. Remember laws are laws and NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW...and my favorite dance partner will always be KARMA. And always remember, no one knows what the backpack weighs, Only the one who carries it.

You guys are hilarious, a joke, more than a joke a, comedy written of jokes comprised of endless punch lines. You realize this story has two end points, the on that you've already arrived at here, and the one that had Saenz not shut down this Illegal Game Room, you would have ended up at. You know, the one where he would have been painted as showing favoritism to an Illegal Game Room because of his association with and knowing the owner. Come on Montoya you truly do see your readers as mindless and plain old stupid. You should show more respect to your seven readers, and to "Journalistic Integrity" as a whole.
ALLEDGEDLY i thought it had something to do with the Texas Workforce Commission and failure to pay employee quarterly taxes that because they fell so behind in these TWC quarterly taxes that ultimately the intervention of the TWC shut them down. or so i was told abd/or overheard in a conversation, but the again I could be wrong

The story is not about Saenz but about Masso. It tell you that if Masso is elected that he can be bought. La gente no son pendejos, they can read. Vote for Masso so that WHINKS can have their illegal game room.

This community needs change. Saenz has been DA for long enough and has done a mediocre job at best. Masso deserves the chance. As long as there is transparency and no corruption (very unlikely) lets see what he can do for us. Vote Masso
To the owner of Wink's, as far as I'm concerned. Your buddy talked a big game and a lot of "caca" when he told you that he would pay for your problems. The "problem" is that you failed to see the big picture of this? You buddy out of high school wanted to use you in talking to Luis Saenz and have him look the other way on the 8 liners. So, who is the loyal one here?
To all those who don't believe that Luis Saenz shouldn't close down 8 liners? Who should do it? Our so-called Sheriff Omar Lucio hasn't done anything about them? Sure as hell our constable Abel Gomez hasn't done anything about them? And there is a reason for that?
These 8 liners are not like before and just ripping people off more to line pockets with money.
And Montoya, if you think that your buddy Carlos Masso won't allow them if elected, HE will. He has family involved with maquinitas and close associates like Rosenbaum. Carlos Masso made a lot of money negotiating for these 8 liners when Armando Villalobos was in office. So, he knows how to work the system. Will it benefit his office if elected, Yes. Because the office will make money from seizures, etc...
But these 8 liners will continue to "rip" people off with poorly maintained machines and odds of winning higher than in legalized gambling establishments.
I have never been to Winks or any other bar, so I don't know the cast of characters involved. I don't want to either. Is DA Saenz a straight shooter or not? I have never had any dealing with him either and don't want to. However I presume him to be compromised, in all sorts of ways, because he is an elected official in Cameron County.
winks should of sold draft beer for $1.50 or $2.00 and he would of still been in business.

You want maquinitas back on every street, taking money away from all your elderly relatives, VOTE MASSO. Massoje?e.....i remember reading he was involved in the $1,000,000 that went missing from Port of Brownsville. Mr. Winks, sorry about your business closing, but bar went under before Saenze involvement with arcade game room or whatever it was. Channel 5 probably went after your game room in an investigation on DA Saenze himself, noting why your place was NOT shut down. Now Masso in the other hand has followers that owned maquinitas, they still have them statched waiting for Masso to give them green light. I'll be honest I went to maquinitas like 3 times when they got popular, one of them offered me beer ice cold to kerp me playing, I had 2 and left, other one was always so packed I stopped to see what was going on, inside house looked nasty, but yet full of older folks, spent 10 bucks they matched it do when I played 20 I jetted, the last time my now deceased neighbor asked me to go with him. We went, we walked in the one on price road by bingo, I was amazed how they treated my elder neighbor, he was VIP. We played for a while and I convinced him it was enough. This maquinitas steal money from the weak in mind and our own county, state, they don't pay taxes on all their revenue. Saenze is going a good job. Clean Ed That Place Up After Villarobos. Be fair post all comments, pro and con "juanito" don't be like Brownsville Herald. Just saying.
