ABBOTT: ONLY HISPANICS IN THE WOODPILE NEED ATTEND

By Juan Montoya
When Republican Greg Abbott ran for governor in the 2014 general election, he lost to Wendy Davis in Cameron County.
Yet, Abbott, who won statewide, got some 16,550 votes to Davis' 21,844 in traditionally Democratic Cameron County.
In fact, prior to Abbott's race, the crossover Democratic vote had elected two Republican county judges – Tony Garza and Carlos Cascos – to be the county's chief executive officers.
Abbott also got a considerable crossover vote in Cameron County, but not enough to carry the county. Still, he had a respectable showing of 42 percent of the vote when the actual
percentage of Republicans in the county is perhaps half of that.
So that's why it makes a twisted kind of logical sense that when Sandy and Nolan Perez host the "reception" to honor Abbott this coming May 26 at their 4205 Water's Edge home in Harlingen Texas, near the Greyhound Park, the Governor's Council – 223 of them – will include only two recognizable Hispanics.
Then again, that makes some sense, as we said earlier. To serve as and Abbott "host" you will have to raise $5,000 or more per couple.
To be a "patron" that number decreases to only $2,500 per couple. To be a "sponsor," it will take only $1,000. and if you want to crash the party and rub elbows with your betters, it's only $500 per  "supporter" and $250 per "guest."
At 5:30, Abbott will be on hand to cit-chat with
There probably won't be a stampede to the Perez's crib from Brownsville, or for that matter, most of Cameron County as there was when Democrats crossed the party line and voted to make Abbott their governor. But let's face it, the average resident of this county probably couldn't afford to play the pooches across Ed Carey Drive from the Perezes. If they're lucky, they may hit on a trifecta and make a little less than the cost of a "guest" ticket so they can continue gambling at the track.
But make no mistake, the botana at Abbott's pachangos finos will be much better than the pretzels and tostaditas.

I do not think "Abbott's pachangos finos" was not a typo, but a Freudian slip.

I wonder how Tony Garza and Carlos Cascos (both "gueros") will feel surrounded by the white fly of the republican party?
Many years ago I attended a party for the Valley Zoological society inside the Gladys Porter Zoo. Of course, to attend you had to be a member and you had to purchase tickets. This was a private party for members and it was at night on the zoo grounds. I took my husband, my mother and my then small child. To my "shock", WE were the minority there. We were the only hispanics (Mexican-Americans) in the whole party. It was funny (I thought)that in a long party table of 20, we four were the only Spanish speakers and I was the only brown skin person and the only one who spoke English!! so I guess in this Republican private party for a Republican governor, if you have the bucks and support HIS beliefs, then use it to your advantage and enjoy it while it lasts.

An old saying "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". In the military it is important to "know the enemy"....know as much about the enemy, his capabilities and his location as possible and use that against him. Well in Cameron County, the Democratic Party is so arrogant that their historical power is starting to fade. The unwillingness of local Dumbokrats to compromise or even debate their political opponents; and the continued corruption among elected Democrats is causing Democrats to cross over to the "other" side. Here if you are seen with a Republican then you are criticized and called a political traitor. Hispanics are also least likely to spend money as members of the ZOO, museum membership, etc....that's why you see so many non-Hispanics at public meetings; like the ZOO. Recently Mr. John Wood wrote a letter giving reasons why we should not vote for Eddie Trevino for County Judge. His five reasons turned into ONE, if you read his comments closely.....Eddie Trevino is not dedicated to the Cameron County Democratic Party...but for the people. John will vote for Dan Sanchez because "Fat" Dan is a Party Clone and could care less what the people want. Thus we can expect Dan to be a voice for the Party and not a voice for the voters of Cameron County.

Anonymous at 2:26........HaHaHa ! You're almost funny! Eddie Trevino is hardly "for the people". Eddie is a slut for United Brownsville and will try his best to rip off the County if elected. When Mayor,Eddie was pathetic and not accessible to the citizens , only to Carlos Marin and his cartel . If Eddie couldn't be there for his family , he certainly won't be there for the people . Lousy choice we have for County Judge , but, Eddie would be the worst of two evils.Vote no to Eddie and his cartel, and a big "FUCK YOU" to Carlos Marin #
