Somehow Brownsville voters dodged the six bullets sent their way by Dallas car dealer Mike Hernandez III. They rejected all 6 of his candidates for the Brownsville Navigation District and Texas Southmost College elections.
The final defeat was the trouncing OP 10.33 candidate Evelyn Cantu received at the hands of Tony Zavaleta-Reid Saturday in the TSC election runoff.

(The results weren't even c\lose by OP 10.33 "standards" of the losses at TSC and the Port of Brownsville candiddates fielded by the messianic group and its prophet Hernandez III. Zavaleta garnered 1,265 to Cantu's 541, a brutal 70 to 30 percent ass whooping.
And of the 500 votes cast on election day, Cantu got a measly 137, again, a measly 27 percent.)
The subliminal message sent by Hernandez selection of 6 candidates for positions critical to Brownsville's future, especially picking two total novices like Daniel Pizana and Beatriz Hockaday, throwing at least $140,000 into their campaigns, was that Mike himself knew more about running BND and TSC than any of those already serving.
Let the record show that, despite Hernandez being one of many thousand successful car dealers in the U.S., he proved himself an annoying amateur in his entry into Brownsville politics. It's doubtful he's an expert in managing a port or community college, either.
We bloggers, for once united at something, might be inclined to take partial credit for Mike's bitter defeats, but the more likely truth is that, for these horse races, Mike chose to put his money down on nags. It's sometimes called market research, Mike.
Mike also made himself a subject of derision by aligning himself with Carlos Marin, who, despite keeping a low public profile, has manipulated Brownsville politics for years to the benefit of his engineering firm Ambiotec, Inc.
But, Mike is hardheaded. He's not going away. He's already working another angle to influence Brownsville.

According to Juan Montoya, State Senator Eddie Lucio III and his staffer Ruben O'Bell are already quite comfortable, thank you, in rides furnished by D&M Leasing, Hernandez' dealership in Dallas. Lucio III was hired by Hernandez as a "consultant."
Who's next for a car? Maybe, Brownsville backstabber "Representative" Rene Oliveira will get something to drive.

Make sure you provide insurance, Mike.

So about 1800 people voted in the TSC runoff. I'm just guessing that the vast majority of them came from those connected with UTB/TSC and all its iterations. And since Tony won over 70% of the vote, let's just say this is the final repudiation of JVG. Had it gone otherwise, she would have seen this as a vindication of herself-promoted tenure, disasters and all. Even though the turnout was low, those that voted showed deep memories and were not fooled by pretty signs, an upstate Messiah, and his local sycophants.
You underestimate the dark force, they got Eddie Trevino elected. Carlos Marin could not have gotten Imagine/United Brownsville plan implemented without Eddie. The axis of evil have formed alliances with OP.10:33, who was a part of the effort to win by hook or by crook the county judge election. The mail in ballots, bussing the elderly from day cares and politiqueras undermined a fair and clean election. So, why do you ignore their county level gain, which is going to have major consequences at many levels. Op.10:33 is doing better than you assume and as history has taught us, what you perceive as failures are only setbacks, because they will get stronger with Eddie's help and eventually take over more positions elected or through appointments.
Hernandez needs to grab his bedroll, get a couple extra horses, one for Marin and the othere for Lucio III and the three of them can head North!
A few rejected OP1033 candidates and Mike Hernandez money made inroads at the Democratic Party convention in San Antonio. He is buying his way in from the top down.
Forgot to mention, even though a conscious effort to drive down the vote on the part of the City of Brownsville (aka Tony Martinez), Tony Zavaleta pulled 71% of the total in round two. This is roughly the same overwhelming pct. that Rueben Herrera and Trey Mendez garnered in round 1; i.e, a mega major landslide. One would think that the self-anointed elite (United Brownsville, JVG, OP-33, Carlos "Cheech" Marin, Tony Martinez et al) might take notice and note that the voting public that actually makes it to the polls has tired of their bullshit.
Sylvia cabeza de Vaca aka la clerk y Carlos Elizondo aka the political prostitute have become the kiss of death. Keep taking pictures with them and you will lose every time.
Hell I voted against her because of her association with the scum la CLERK
Philanthropy in Brownsville is a blessing that an ungrateful public has cursed. Jim Barton's blog is no longer read so he begs you for space to rant. Just my 2¢

All this emphasizes that ALL of our elected officials are receiving benefits from rich businessmen...payment for favors. The poor people of Brownsville are served by Sen. Eddie (Sucio) Lucio, Rep. Eddie (The Turd) Lucio, and Rene (Asshole) Oliviera....all more loyal to their benefactors than to the citizens of Brownsville. The same is true of local officials....they heel to the money.
to KBRO.....
trying to influence or buy an election with your millions is not philanthropy, it is called an oligarchy, much like the Koch brothers (the GOP Republican's sugar daddys).
KBRO is spot-on about Jim Barton's blog. He should type his crapola in the lobby of the El Jardin. Both are dying! ja ja ja
"KBRO is spot-on about Jim Barton's blog"
