IN ELECTION, WILL "BROWNSVILLE MENTALITY" DOOM CORTEZ?

By Juan Montoya
Remember when Cameron County Republican Party nominee for Cameron County Sheriff Victor Cortez was running for the nomination of his party against Indian Lake police Chief John Chambers?
In a tit-for-tat running cyber dispute with former Los Fresnos police chief Johnny Cavazos, Cortez – who is the sole rival against incumbent Omar Lucio fo the Democrats – crowed over the fact that he had a direct hand in the conviction of his opponent for the same position.

At the time Cortez, who left Luis Saenz's Cameron County District Attorney Office Public Integrity Unit (PIU) to run for the Republican sheriff nomination, briefly posted his comments on his Facebook page before cooler minds convinced him to remove it.
Using DEA-inspired scorched earth political tactics, Cortez heaped contempt on the "Brownsville mentality" and crowed over the fact that he had a direct hand in the conviction of his opponent for the same position.

Cortez made the post in response to an offending post by Cavazos, a Chamber supporter.
Chambers is appealing his conviction on 14 counts of Tampering With a Government Document where he was accused of directing a confidential informant – his assistant chief Alfredo Avalos – to put together files on his 30 deputies' firearm certification.

Avalos, after receiving immunity from the DA's Office – told a jury that he was acting under Chambers' orders, the Nuremberg Defense.
In his post, Cortez refers to the "Brownsville Mentality" and insists that there is noting but facts coming from his side.
Then, gratuitously, the former DEA agent posted a photo of Chambers' booking photo and tells Cavazos, "In case you missed it, here it is again, enjoy."
We wonder what Cortez – himself a Brownsville native allegedly from La 421 – meant by the "Brownsville mentality."

It's still funny how Cortez didn't mention all the "facts."
For example, he didn't metnionthat while he was the chief at the PIU, Cortez imitated at least two investigations into Chambers following the disclosure that Chambers had gone to the FBI with information on wrongdoing at the DA's Office.

Another minor "fact" is that on two occasions the charges against Chambers were dropped because of lack of evidence to back the charges.

It was also a "fact" that the investigation into the gun certification changes originated with a Cortez-inspired investigation.

And also true was the "fact" that Cortez – during Chamber's trial – assisted his former DEA colleague George Delaney to try Chambers even though he was his opponent for the GOP sheriff nomination in the upcoming March 1 elections. (He is the guy in the baseball cap kneeling in the hallway outside the corridor conferring with investigator Delaney in the graphic at left.)

Since Cortez said he is from Brownsville, is it the "Brownsville mentality" to use the power of the state to discredit your political opponent by taking a direct hand in his prosecution when you stand to benefit directly from it?

Is this a Republican thing, something Cortez picked up in DEA training, or a talent that was nurtured and finessed in the bowels of the Cameron County DA's Office?

This November 8, we'll see how far Cortez goes against Lucio without the support of the "Brownsville mentality."

Omar Lucio is a dinosaur being held up by the Reyna brothers. Lucio doesn't even know how to put the stars on his collar correctly...how can he be trusted with the security of the county. Lucio is also a consummate politician, loyal to the party and the corruption of that party. It is time for Lucio to retire and fade into history.

Otra ves? Como si ya parale con eso no? BORING

Why doesn't Cortez take pictures of the wrecked vehicles at the county barn Reyna has done in and put them in an ad along with the budget of this out of control operation?

"Cortez represents JUSTICE"

Si, como no, ni que fuera Batman.

If it weren't for Chambers arrested by Cortez's plan Chambers would have easily beaten Cortez in the primary.

Batman le llega corto a Cortez. Es un hombre honrado. No te hagas pendejo cara de rabo

Cortez is an almost was not even a has been.
No trai nada. Es mas chueco que nada y brownsville mentality will do him in

Justice was served on Chambers. Good riddance to bad garbage. JH Cavazos has tipped his hand enough times to reveal that he is neck deep in political corruption too. Victor Cortez is certainly unpolished but is still a much better choice than the crypt keeper Omar Lucio and his goons.

Cortez he's a nice guy but he don't know hwo to express himself,I am not saying that John Chambers will win the elections maybe we'll be real close.

I will vote for Cortez..... We need to get rid of Omar Lucio and the Reyna brothers. Our county security is weak because of them. They are politicos.....not law enforcement agents. Our county needs a real cop.....not just another Dumbokrat.

That statement Cortez made, from what I read, is taken out of context. It's not at all what you're making it to be. I will vote for him.

Cortez is a fake. Before he would never ever give anyone the time of day. Now he's pretending to care about the public and public relations. Yeah right give me a break! Keep pretending for another12 years and give it another try again faker.

If it wasn't for Chambers 13 felony convictions with videos evidence of him conspiring with the informant to cover up his crime, he would have at least gone to the runoffs. 13 convictions by a jury. Not a judge- a jury of his peers who didn't buy his latest con. And chambers was lucky it wasn't worse. Don't forget he was on video and accusing the judge of corruption for allowing in the video of him discussing what he did and conspiring.

Had Morgan not declared him ineligible he would have ended up being challenged and removed otherwise and it would have gone to Cortez. At least she handled it well by declaring him ineligible before the canvass, which hmgave the people a choice between two non-felons in the runoff.

CHAMBERS wouldn't have beaten anyone. His support group and conspiracy stories are what got him votes. Una por PENDEJA y la otra por BRUTA!

I know "PENDEJA" who is "BRUTHA"
