HEART ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT SUFFERS HEART ATTACK

By Susan Scutti

The president of the American Heart Association, Dr. John Warner, had a minor heart attack Monday during the organization's scientific conference taking place in Anaheim, California, according to a press release.

Warner, CEO of UT Southwestern University Hospitals in Dallas, was taken to a local hospital where doctors inserted a stent to open a clogged artery. Warner is recovering and doing well, according to the Heart Association.

Prior to the attack, the 52-year-old practicing cardiologist delivered a Sunday speech where he talked about the effects of heart disease on his family. Both his father and his father's father had heart bypass surgery while in their 60s, he told the audience. He also lost his maternal grandfather and a great grandfather to heart disease.

"After my son was born and we were introducing him to his extended family, I realized something very disturbing: There were no old men on either side of my family. None," he told his audience. "All the branches of our family tree cut short by cardiovascular disease."

Well obviously the president of the American Heart Association is not practicing what he preaches. Heart disease is preventable through exercise & healthy eating.

We all have to DIE. Some sooner than others.

How is that obvious? Did you perform a medical evaluation on him?

The healthiest person in the world can have heart problems.

The instructor from the biggest looser had a heart attack.

I don't see the obvious.

What is the inference in this piece on the blog? Should we refuse to do as the heart association recommends as prevention or should we just let it be God's choice as to who, what, when and why each of us must go? Look at our dear Dr. Arnulfo Oliveira who was the healthiest individual who was actually running when he suffered his fatal heart attack. In that case, the reason was mostly hereditary, but how many of today's people actually know or care about their hereditary diseases since most do not have any idea about their ancestors.
When it is our time, it is our time and to heck with anything else. If it happens to those who are conscious of preventive efforts and participate in preventive activities, why should it not affect all of us who sit on our butts reading blogs all day?

Genetics can play a role. There are athletes who have them too. Exercise and healthy diet are lifestyle factors that can lessen you risk of developing it. Just like are people who can smoke for decades and not get cancer there are people who have great lifestyles who do- it’s just that one is more likely than the other.
