UTRGV PRESIDENT GUY BAILEY: TRUST ME ON THIS ONE

February 14, 2018

Dear Campus Community:

As stated in my December 5, 2017 campus message, the SACSCOC Board confirmed that UTRGV successfully addressed all concerns cited in its probationary letter of January 11, 2017.

At its December 2017 annual meeting, the SACSCOC Board continued UTRGV on probation for Federal Requirement 4.7, a standard not originally cited in the January 11, 2017 letter.

Last week we received our official notification from SACSCOC, which requests that UTRGV provide externally verified evidence that all findings have been fully addressed. This work is well underway. The SACSCOC Board will review UTRGV’s resolution of any findings at the December 2018 annual meeting.

As a reminder, UTRGV remains accredited. As such, graduate and undergraduate degrees earned are awarded by an accredited university.

Just as we successfully addressed all of the concerns before, we are confident that this last issue will also be addressed successfully. Please visit our accreditation FAQs page for additional information.

Sincerely,
Guy Bailey
UTRGV President

Still, UT System, with the help of Queen Julieta Garcia, screwed Brownsville when UTRGV was located in Edinburg and Brownsville received an off-sight campus. We are back to where we were in the 1980's......The students in Brownsville are forced to go up the Valley to complete their degrees. Fortunately, this split has benefited TSC. Of course while local students voice concerns about the travel requirements, Brownsville Mayor, Tony Martinez, doesn't seem concerned and his fervent support for Juliet Garcia surely is his reason for non-action. Brownsville has no leadership.

I was on the UTRGV Brownsville campus the other day and was struck by the similarity of that outpost of UTRGV to a large Texas high school with regards to the number of students. What happened to all the students who UTB-TSC was reporting? The students I talked with complained about the lack of courses offered and the lack of faculty.

Dr. Bailey, the man for the job! Great accomplishment, now my degree is worth something.

Juliet Garcia asked us to "trust her" and look what it got us. Of course the same is true for Tony Martinez. "Show me the beef."

Duplicitous manner simply "fork tongue", we've been there before. Most citizens here are livid and furiously angry when officials (elected or not) try to address ineptness, corruption, incompetence or malfeasance by them as a series of coincidences and suggests that they can be simply explained. Pretentious identifies most if not all elected officials and to some extent most non-elected officials.
