5TH SENIOR MEMBER OF THE HOUSE...WHAT HAS IT GOT US?
By Juan Montoya
One of the major "talking points" of supporters of the reelection of District 37 Texas Representative Rene Oliveira is that he is the fifth-senior member of the House of Representatives.
This, they say, allows him to bring in the cash for his district that otherwise would not be brought in by someone who has not been around to see how the sausage is made in Austin.
But of the five senior members, guess whose district has the lowest per capita income of all?
Would you believe the district of the fifth senior member, our own lovable Rene Oliveira?
Below are the par capita numbers and percentage of percentage of people in poverty of the five senior members of the house.
1. Tom Craddick, Amarillo $32,938 10.9 percent in poverty
2. Sephonia Thompson , Houston $15,742 27.8 percent in poverty
3. Harold Dutton, Houston, $19,867 24.5 percent in poverty
4. John Smithee, Amarillo, $27,603 12.4 percent in poverty
5. Oliveira, Brownsville (SPI), $13,416 39.1 percent in poverty
If you take into consideration the fact that the districts of the two Houston representatives (141, 142) take in part of inner-city Houston, it becomes quite clear that Oliveira's "seniority" has not really translated into the economic well-being of his district's constituents.
It has however, translated into a rather lucrative enterprise for Oliveira after 34 years in office. Although the pay for house representatives is only $7,200 a year plus $190 per diem when the House is in session, in the last two reporting periods Oliveira reported gathering some $162,163 in contributions, the majority of them (98.74 percent) from Political Action Committees and lobbyists from outside his district.
No wonder he wants to stay for the gravy. But a lot of good it has done us.

Dominguez would be worthless, useless for three or four terms. Take that into consideration, Montoya. You don't, and that's where your position shrinks to nothing.
Plus, poverty along the border is historical, hardly Oliveira's fault. Lazy-ass Mexican are themselves to blame. Consider that. Oh, wait, you're among the poor.
La estas cagando, juan. Rene is Brownsville!
So what do you call lazy ass hillbillies? They marry within their own families. Poverty along the appalachian mountains is not historical it is a way of life, has always been and will always will be. Nothing but pigs.
Here if you have two pesetas you think you're white and rich. Down here we have our own Dr. Franz Blaha. We call those wanna bees COCOS, Tio Tacos, Tia Chuchas, jaibas. These cocos seek success at the price of attacking HispanicS and their own culture, thinking that the whites will look favorably upon them and offer them a trinket.
Oliveira, like Trump, has his local trolls and knows that his chances are slim and if the few Republicans in this district dont have a candidate for November, they will cross and vote for Dominguez just to get rid of Oliveira.
You think he is Brownsville? REALLY? Well, if he is Brownsville, its time to give it a NEW and better perspective.
I don't know Mr. Dominguez, but I early voted and DID NOT vote for Oliveira. I am a Brownsville native; I know Dominguez is not from Brownsville; I don't care if he is from Mars or Jupiter; Oliveira is NOT a good model to follow. Classic politician from the 1970's and 1980's. It's time for him to GO.
Being the 5th most senior member of the Texas House means that he can sell his vote to more people.....and Rene does that. He is for sale to the highest bidder. His position is useless to us unless he uses it to benefit us. He has not so far done much at all for the RGV, except show up to garner photo ops. He took Julieta Garcia and Tony Martinez side with UT System, against the tax payers of Cameron County. That led to the loss of millions of tax dollars and real estate purchases which sit vacant today. Time for a change...GET RID OF RENE. HE HAS ABUSED THE VOTERS OF CAMERON COUNTY FOR TOO LONG!!!!!!!
FOR HONEST REPRESENTATION, VOTE FOR ALEX DOMINGUEZ!!!!!!!!!!
None have any interest for this community. Oliveira voted for spacex and to close TSC, domingez voted for lng a chemical company known for disasters and killing the environment and people. Citizens close to the port of Brownsville, on hwy 511, port isable, north east Brownsville should NOT vote domingez and the rest should NOT vote for oliveira...
