BODY OF MISSING MISSION MAN FOUND AT CASCOS' SPREAD

Various Sources

The Cameron County Sheriff's Department, Mission Police and the Texas Rangers are investigating the discovery of a man's body – a reported  kidnap victim from Hidalgo County – that was apparently dumped by his assailants in a 50-acre plot of land owned by Carlos Cascos, the former Texas Secretary of State and Cameron County Judge.

The body was discovered Thursday  in a brushy area adjacent to a citrus orchard on Cascos' property. Police would not say how the body was discovered, but sources say it was the result of an anonymous tip.

The secluded nature of the land also point to someone who might have been involved to have given authorities the tip. The land is bordered on one side by a meandering resaca and on Sam Houston Rd. on another.

The man's identity has not been disclosed, but suspicions are that the killing was a result of a drug deal gone bad and that the remoteness of the property made it attractive to dump the victim.
Cascos, in Austin when  the body was found, did  not have a comment on the discovery.

Cascos, Republican, is currently running for his previous position as county judge in the November general election against Democrat incumbent Eddie Treviño, the former City of Brownsville mayor.

A Cascos supporter quipped that there was no indication that the body found in Cacsos' property was Treviño's.

Last sentence totally unnecessary. What journalism school did you go to?

When Boynton Fleming was Sheriff years ago, rural Cameron County was a dumping ground for bodies killed all over the state. The killers knew that it was not likely the case would be solved because of the ineffectiveness of the Cameron County Sheriff's office.

I wonder if we are returning to those days of yore.

Readers, make sure you check your background and surrounding for bodies being dumped there without your knowledge, or otherwise you will be dragged into the investigation. What idiot would bury a body in his yard, but yet, stranger things have happened, right?

To anonymous things have changed since sheriff Boynton left office. We now have a very professional and knowledegable sheriff department under Sheriff Omar Lucio.

The FBI should star digging at Casco's land and see what else they find. Remember Casco has been around and also born in Mexico. He was involved in the Brownsville Navigation Bridge, he knows of Tomas Yarrington, Dannenbaum and God knows who else in corruption. This should be the mark of the beginning of searching the land of our so called corrupt political leaders. Star there and then move on to Eddie Lucio and see what skeletons they find on the land. Life is a bitch when it catches up to you.

As the first blogger stated, there was not need for the last statement and if I were Mr. Cascos or Mr. Trevino, I would demand an apology. It is bad enough that everyone now uses a gun to settle a simple problem and need no pushing or suggestions from people - regardless of free speech. This statement should be retracted and apologies offered to both gentlemen. Shame on you, Juan, for expressing you selfishness for having people read your blog.

Blogger 7:16 - where your parents born or even your ancestors? Where they American Indians or did they come through Mexico way back? Does that mean that we must also check your back yard? Whether we admit it or not, if you do study your ancestry, most of us will find skeletons in our closet, so as they say, when you are involved in politics, your skeletons will come out of the closet to dance. So remember when we point a finger at someone, 3 fingers are pointing back at you.

Well, that is an opinion and not a proven fact. Many, many people in Cameron County would dispute it's basic truthfulness.

So, should all bodies be dumped on the property of Republicans to support your bias that those Republicans should be discredited. Are you going to start reporting the political affiliation of the owner of every property on which a body is dumped????? Should we assume the killers are Democrats who purposefully disposed of this body on that property to discredit Carlos Cascos?? This is very careless and biased reporting!!

Those who know Mr. Cascos will never fall for those false accusations. There is a saying that you don't have to explain yourself to your enemies because they won't believe you and you don't have to explain yourself to your friends.
Both Mr. Cascos and Mr. Trevino are good men and have the right to challenge each other for a political position without have their names dragged through the mud. Let the best man win and maybe then we can stop all the corruption in this town. This is the only position where I actually will vote for the best candidate and not for the lesser of two evils.
