We were told that the call letters to the station were entered incorrectly so that you ended up with a KBORing meaning. The transmitter, we are also told, were home made from a kit.
We don't know if Connie Green is in the bunch, but everyone looks thrilled to be there. Did this presage the appearance of Fats Domino in Brownsville with his hit Blueberry Hill?

NO Mexicans in that photo? Why not?
When I see photos like this one I remember the Edcouch-Elsa walkout of 1968.

Corruption was hidden and not so well publicized, Scumbags like the Black Mamba Rene Oliveira would have been shot while cleaning his gun. The Jackass Jason Hilts and Gilbert Salinas, would have been on the chain gang, for getting caught.
Ya chole con Rene Oliveira. Drop it and realize the more you talk about him the name is in public and before we know it, he will be running for Mayor. Por favor, bury his name and go forward.
The Mexicans could not participate cause Mrs. Perkins used to say that we said shit instead of sheet and share instead of chair. Mexicans were not even considered for scholarships cause she said we were to all be secretaries, work at Kress or join the Navy. Ask anyone from those times. And we fought to keep her name of the middle school to no avail.
and glo green go but nobody linseen so we cud not spik in rado.
ms perkins was a racist
The Texas lawsuit, filed in 1987 by the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund charges that state officials, through uneven state appropriations to universities, deprived the public universities nearer the Mexico border, where the student population is largely Hispanic, of a fair share of state resources.
The rich gringo agriculture and rancher landlords of this area consistently blocked efforts to bring higher education to the RGV, mainly to keep a pool of uneducated labor force to work the fields and their ranch lands.
What we see now is a mirror of the past but now it’s the real estate business bringing fast food and merchant stores where salaries start at a whopping 7.50 an hr. The merchant stores bring in their store managers and all their high level managing staff.
The first thing all these transplants do is buy houses. The company buys the land where the stores are built with the offer of tax deals for these companies, that is tax abatement. When cities do this public education suffers and incomes eventually falls (why because of the tax abatements, these companies pay NO taxes, unlike you the citizen and these tax abatements last anywhere from 5 to 30 years).
There’s no free lunch, the incentives have to be paid, and the money comes from somewhere, you guessed it your taxes.
The elected officials either by pure ignorance or for other reasons chose this route instead of enticing manufacturing and/or high tech companies to come here. These companies pay range up to and beyond $25. an hour.
So where is the problem?? You guessed it the elected officials...
No, Connie Green is not in the picture, she was an older lady with her own daily radio show. Those teens are from the BHS classes of 1960-61. I agree with the comments on about the school counselor, Mrs. Perkins, who was the only counselor for the entire high school amd offered no guidance at all. Her famous words to all Mexican-Americans students (as we were referred to at that time) were: Try to graduate, then find a good or join the service. I also wondered why a school was named after her.
Reverse token for lack of a better word...
