An online petition drew more than 3,500 votes to remove Castro from the BISD board drew comments like the one below.
"I feel uncomfortable that this person comes in contact with so many of our young people INSIDE the schools. Taking photos of them and such. That being said, if he cannot or does not feel the need to make an effort to set an example to those same children, then he has no place on ANY board or political office at all. I understand we are all human, but the choices he seems to be making are lacking better judgment on his part being in the position he is in."

I love how indignant people are at these guys. This is who we voted in to office. These are the guys the people wanted to occupy these elected offices. Something has happened over the last few years. Political offices have been demystified and now we think people with no real discernible skill or experience can hold these offices. These guys are the epitome of the dog that caught the car he was chasing. Now that he caught the car, he has no idea what to do with it.
It does people absolutely no good to complain about what Castro does whenever he visits these campuses. The guy moderates a Facebook page. What did you think he was going to do? He is going to take pictures and post them online. If you don't want your child photographed with him, tell your child not to pose for pictures with him. If you don't want your child's picture posted on his Facebook page, tell them not to pose for pictures, period. If you have a legitimate issue with that, go to a board meeting and ask for clarification on the restrictions on photographing minors who are attending a public school are.
Did these guys screw up? Sure, they did. Driving while intoxicated is no laughing matter. However, should he be removed from office? That's for someone smarter than I am to decide. Signing an online petition calling for his resignation is a waste of time. If you really want to have him removed from office, look into starting the recall process. People just want to stand on the sidelines, shake their fists, and call for his head on a platter, but they really don't want to do anything concrete.
All these people just want someone to be mad at, and they've put Castro in their cross-hairs. If you dislike the guy that much, don't vote for him the next time his name appears on a ballot. Problem solved.

OK, don't vote for him next time, but meanwhile, do we have to put up with him on the school board and running around all the campuses where he is meeting and greeting our children? How do I go about asking for a recall? Maybe SPA can help me?
