Special to El Rrun-Rrun
Remember the last time that elected officials tried to ram through a hefty pay raise through the Cameron County commissioners Court?
Well, that didnt' go over big, and after the court's meeting room filled up with anti-raise and Anti-PNG protestors, the matter of the raises and the tax abatements for Anova LNG were quietly tabled.
That was the last we'd heard of the issues, but they is a trial balloon set for the Salary Grievance Committee of Sept. 9 (Monday) meeting. This time it's Cameron County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez taking the bull by the horns and making her case before the committee for a raise. She is the lone county official who has filed for a pay increase.
The notice does not say what she wants her salary to increase to and Garza-Perez denies that she is asking for the $22,000 that was published in the newspaper by the county. This is what appeared then:
Current Allowances
(Phone) (Total) Proposed Increase
Cty. Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez $82,620 $960 $84,580 $105,960 $22,380
Instead, she said that she had filed her appeal with the grievance committee for only a $7,000 raise and that she had never been told that the county would publish the notice that indicated she wanted a $22,000 raise.
The last time that County Judge Eddie Treviño made a comment on why the tabled raises he said that there was no money in the budget for raises for public officials, but didn't explain why they were published in the newspaper anyway.
Could it be that Garza-Perez's grievance is a trial balloon to see whether an appointed committee will give in and grant her the raise, thereby opening up the floodgate for other elected officials to seek their own pay raises. The county clerk's request will be heard on Monday, and the full court will hear recommendations from county administrator Pete Sepulveda based on the committee's decisions.
Will the commissioners bite the bullet and approve what the committee decides? And will the crowd who showed up to protest the raises show up to protest this one as well?

Under the new law if a 100 people sign up to speak Trevino cannot stop them.

Senator Lucio Draws Serious Primary Challenge
The Texas Senate’s most conservative Democrat faces two opponents. Is the Valley ready for change?
Democratic state Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. starts choking up over the phone.
“Session after session, Senator Eddie Lucio comes to Austin and votes against the best interests of the LGBTQ community. … We know that Senator Lucio will not look out for all of us.”
Lucio’s two primary challengers are Sara Stapleton-Barrera, a 35-year-old trial lawyer whose father chaired the Cameron County Dems in the ’90s, and Ruben Cortez, a sitting member of the State Board of Education who won re-election last year.
ta pend3ja!
what does she do again?
Texas State Troopers are paid an annual wage of $73,208!
22k is what most people make here in a year and she wants a 22k raise esta pero bien--- I hope it never happens if she don't like it she can quit which I doubt where else can she make 80k a year NO WHERE!!!!
For such HIGH SALARY, as a Brownsville native and Cameron County voter, I would like to know her college degree, and qualifications for her "job". How many of the duties does SHE actually do and how many she delegates.
ENOUGH!!!, if you don't like the salary you get at your current JOB, find another job that pays a dollar more than what you're getting. Ah, but you really have to prove qualifications.
I'm not sure if this went through before. I did it on the phone with a magnified glass. Under the new law if 100 people sign up to speak Treviño must allow all of them to speak.

This pig needs to get out office and go to work, every person in that office does her work, she only wants to look pretty. Piss on this pig!
Why run for an office - knowing the salary- then ask for a raise?
If you don’t like the salary- run for something else!!!
People, I need a raise, or rise. On everything in my life! Heh, heh. LMAO
- Booby Weightman-Ramirez
No elected person should be qualified to get a raise in the term in which the raise is granted. That way we can vote them out of office before they get the money if we don't think they deserve it.

She can run out of town and stay out or run to the nearest outhouse or run the the nearest employment office or quit...
Why did this sorry excuse of an elected official even run for office knowing full well what she was going to be paid? This nepotism slut knew that a raise would be coming since the idiots voted eddie into office and knowing how the brownsville politicos work?
Besides, her office staff say that its a miracle that she's ever in the office or much less even work! But then again, that' the brownsville way!
County clerk sylvia is just another piggly wiggley asking for more money $$$$ perhaps she should perform marriage ceremnoies like linda al balona salazar to supplement her current salary or ask her boyfriend for some lana too. Un moche. lol
Take flowmax 9:21 for the latter
Traffic lights gone wild
